Born in Hopewell, New York in 1830, he left school at age 14 and moved to Ohio to work (and live) with his half-brother at a general store. Being a natural salesman, he quickly advanced from his original salary of $5 a month, and by age 22, he was partners with his half-brother in a grain business and distillery (Encyclopedia of World Biography, 2004).

Shortly after that, Franklin married his childhood sweetheart, Deborah Reed. In the autobiography, called The Autobiography and Short Writings, Ben Franklin mentioned that he and his wife became well-known in their community by owning and operating a print shop, general store, and book store (55). An enterprising man, Franklin bought the Pennsylvania Gazette after having much success in the colonies with his other family-owned businesses. Franklin was in charge of printing the paper and also writing articles (The Electric Ben Franklin 5). Once again, Franklin used different names other than his own when submitting the articles.
The dedication put into the construction of the street car is impressive. Several lives were lost due to landslides, and even after suffering these casualties, the building continued. But the street cars and the lake were just the beginning of what became the most popular park in the area. Every year, amusements improved and more people were attracted. The addition of summer cabins, an outdoor theatre, miniature golf course, picnic grove, a roller coaster, bumper cars, pavilions, a petting zoo, baseball park, and a swimming pool made the park more appealing and exciting than ever.
Our devoted friend Mr. William Penn established this prodigious land a few years back. According to father, King Charles II, owed money to Mr. Penn’s late father therefore granting him this territory. He promised us not only prosperous land but also the freedom of religion and protection from persecution. Our family has received one hundred acres of land where we have built a mid-sized home out of the lavish wood that this territory embraces. Father and my brother Thomas spend most of their time harvesting in our tobacco plantation.
Richard Carlton Born in November 12, 1724 was raised to a religious catholic community of Alnwick, Northumberland, England. Carlton was well-known in the New England Colonial Society as a man highly respected for his service and knowledge. As a child Carlton attended the Alnwick elementary school he then graduated from Oxford, England in 1742 with a degree in business. As a man of opportunist Carlton came to the land of Opportunity, The American colony. He arrived in Virginia, New England in 1748 and met a lovely young lady named Sarah, whom he then married a year later; they then had twins Edward and Thomas born in August 21 1755 followed by their daughter Jane in January 15 1757.

Reverend Overall graduated from Radcliffe College as an attorney dealing in high finance for a New York Firm (Kozol, 87). This type of career is often seen as rewarding in the sense that a good income and lifestyle is almost always attached to this profession. However, Reverend Overalls brother passes of AIDS while she is practicing law, which opens a new view on life that eventually leads Overall to enter the church (Kozol, 87). From this point on Reverend Overall dedicates all of her attention to St. Ann’s church, which is a safe haven for many of the poorest children and families of New York. Many women turn to St. Ann’s in dire times when other places, such as women’s shelters, turn these women and children away when capacity is at its maximum (Kozol,146).
