Nowdays, people started to forget that the internet and new media technologies intersperse our notice but the book helps to keep our attention. So people need to read a books in order to improve their attention. In the article “ Does the Internet Make you Dumber or Smarter?, “ Nicholas Carr asks question that does the internet make people dumber or smarter?. I think a lot of people want to know the answers too. Carr thinks that the net makes people dumper because he proved the net makes people scattered and superficial thinkers.
This is not the case when comparing them to the previous generation. This is what Clive Thompson’s essay argues about, but instead of directly targeting young people, he blames parents, the society, and social networks. Indeed, when compared to the previous generations, parents and society were stricter. With the arrival of social networks, teens tend to spend more time on it rather than face to face. Because of the impact of the society and parents plus the evolution of new technologies, young people are less and less able to communicate face to face.

Some people see this as a mental disorder, however, this is due to people trying to look for a quick fix and not doing the thorough research. I will agree that the way people are thinking is indeed changing, some for the good, but most for the bad as well. Search engines are rerouting our memory. According to one article in Science magazine, we're not necessarily losing our ability to remember things.
Technology Today Over the years, change in technology has made an enormous impact on our daily lives. It has changed the way we collect and absorb information. It also affects the way we interact with each other and how we spend our free time. Television, internet, and media are now infiltrating every aspect of our lives through smartphones and laptops. Many people argue that technology is actually causing us to lose touch with each other and reality in general.
The Internet is a technology that changed the way we read. The Internet causes us to loose focus or to just skim through information really quickly. The need to get information quickly, rather than spending the time to read a book, is due to the Internet. When I need to read something for a class I would much rather go to Spark Notes on the Internet, rather than read a complete book. The Internet has helped reading to evolve.
With Friends Like These written by Tom Hodgkinson talks about the effect that Facebook has on the consumer. Throughout his writing Hodgkinson is very much against the use of the internet because it is an imaginary world that interconnects everyone without much effort than the use of a keyboard and mouse, everything only being a click away. He also continues to emphasize that there isn’t much effort being put into communicating and networking with others in person, putting us on the verge of losing that skill. Throughout his writing the author uses a serious tone that can come across as very negative as he speaks out against not only Facebook, but other big name companies such as Paypal, Coca-Cola and Blockbuster. The use of a descriptive example such as, “A friend of mine recently told me that he spent a Saturday night at home alone on Facebook, drinking at his desk.
He further argues that working at those franchising stores also takes up teen's time for schools. Etzioni says teens are easily learning wrong things from others when working, because they are not learning
Students do not realize that plagiarizing someone else’s work is actually stealing. The educational system does not teach this to students. The educational system should teach that you have to cite an author even if you just take their idea and do not use their exact words. The online companies that generate essays for students should be outlawed. This is making it where students that have a lot of money can easily get by with actually learning how to write correctly.
They can choose to engage in deep thinking activities. Too much of anything is not good for any one, and this also applies to internet usage. Scholars say that the price of technology is alienation and that this indicates that the more distracted an individual becomes, the less able they are to experience human emotions such as empathy and compassion. It is still too early to tell what the results of the future effects of the internet, but as Carr states, “An intellectual technology exerts its influence by shifting the emphasis of our thought. As the brain adapts to the new medium, the most profound changes will take place over several generations’
If we as people do not remember what it means to be friendly and learn to communicate again I am afraid what society might turn into. With technology the way it is today personal communication is coming so obsolete. Even the younger generation is doing more texting and communication on the internet than the way communication once was. I sometimes sit and think about the future of communication and it scares me how just talking to someone someday will become a thing of the past. Hopefully people in my generation can get their children to put down their devices and talk again.
