What does it mean to be an American? For hundreds of years the United States has been attracting immigrants from different countries, races, and religious to come live in a land full of freedom and opportunity. Why is this so? These people were looking for more than just rights and privileges. It’s cause they want to become something that shows pride and honor, an American. Along with the name come a number of different benefits such as freedom of speech to express your own opinion, freedom of religion and equality for all, including different sexes, races, religions and status. Being an American means much more than living in the United States. I am very proud of my privileges as an American because many other countries are not fortunate enough to have all these freedoms. Our freedoms are what set American’s apart from other countries. For example, the amendment is a great example of what I mean. Americans like me have the opportunity to a good education and receive a good career apart from some countries. American people of all different races and religious can live and work together because everyone is allowed an equal opportunity. Americans are united we take pride in our country. All American’s should be proud of what the United States has accomplished. My country has become a major influence to other countries. Mainly because we are one of the most developed, wealthiest, and advanced country in the world. Another quality that unites all Americans is its past. Monuments like the Lincoln Memorial, historical landmarks, like war battlefields, and federal holidays such as the 4th of July are just some models of a time or place that all Americans can share. Or like the time I visited the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. which was filled with pride and joy for the nation.
