What About Bob? I chose to watch the movie What About Bob?. In this film Bill Murray portrays a strange and anxious man known as Bob Wiley. Bob Wiley is isolated by his multiple phobias and excessive dependence on therapists. Bob also suffers from fears that range from germs to fear of having a heart attack or his bladder explode spontaneously. He additionally pretends to have Tourette syndrome, shouting strange but inappropriate and vulgar combinations of words just to reassure himself he does not have it. Bob is also socially anxious and desperate. The ethical dilemmas that I found with in this movie where obvious right away. I believe that the first unethical situation that I noticed was Bob’s current therapist Dr. Carswell Fensterwald calling Dr. Leo Marvin to refer Bob to Dr. Marvin. Did he feel bad in knowing the type of patient he was giving to Dr. Martin? He never disclosed the entire reason behind giving Bob to him. I feel it was irresponsible of Dr. Marvin to take on such a complex patient the day before he left for a summer vacation with his family. I feel that he should have referred him to another therapist instead of thinking about himself. Dr. Marvin also had an increase willingness to push the sale of his book Baby Steps for the sale of his book and maybe in hopes that it would help Bob Wiley just until he returned from his month long vacation. I believe that Dr. Marvin was thinking of himself and his television interview over the care of a patient. Betty, the switchboard operator, had an ethical dilemma when Bob repeatedly asked for a connection to Dr. Marvin. She knew that it was not permitted to do so and that all of Dr. Marvin’s calls where to be given to another Dr., but instead she sent the call through. Not only did she do it once she did it again.
