Immigration became a conflict after the discovery of gold in California in 1848 which brought numerous of contract Chinese laborers to the western part of the United States. Since labor was short in supply the Chinese were welcomed, but with time American workers began to see them as competition. The Chinese put the American workers in disadvantage, for they were willing to do menial jobs for a low salary. The job competition really intensified, leading American laborers to yell “The Chinese must go!” (Congress of 1870s) As a result of the conflict a Chinese Exclusion Act was passed in 1882, it prohibited the immigration of the Chinese for ten years. After the ten year termination, the exclusion act was reenacted without a terminal date.
In 1830 the railroad expansion from 73 miles in 1830 to 30,636 miles in 1860 which trespassed into Native American homelands, violating the treaty of Fort Laramine. Thousands of Indians were forced into reservations, which was another violation of the treaty of Fort Laramine. In result of the expansion into Native American homelands destroyed the civilization. When the western settlers hired men to kill buffalo off buffalo it rapidly reduced the population of the sacred animal to the Indians. This also destroyed the traditional use of the buffalo.
The first signs of disruption that led to the general strike was the fact that other countries such as Poland were becoming a more predominant exporter of coal, and the only way to stop Britain’s coal industry was to higher the price of coal, extend miners working hours and reduce pay. Obviously not favoured by the miners. Many British mines were old and needed modernisation, mine owners didn’t want to do this and there was a feeling of the miners wanting the mines to be nationalised. To make matters worse, the government decided to put Britain back on the gold standard, the pre-1914 exchange rate. British coal exports were more costly, this again led to mine owners wanting wage cuts and longer working hours, however these were rejected, this lead to multiple threats of a lockout, were the miners wouldn’t get paid al all as the were not allowed to work.
But consumers aren't helping their fellow countryman earn his own living by buying these imported items. Consumers are giving their hard-earned money to Walmart to go back to China to buy more items. (Smith & Young, 2004). Walmart has created new jobs for people when they open new stores, but they are underpaid jobs. Many of the positions are part-time, therefore, they are positions without benefits.
Recession- The recession is an opposite of boom stage. The unemployment increase, most of firms are losing confidence and stops invest or expand. They may change their planning and started to survive. The customers are likely to save money then spend and the percentages of loans are high and may increase. Individuals are losing jobs and the government have to spend more money of benefits.
Just a few years before this document was written such events as the Massacre at Wounded Knee happened, I believe this was just too fresh in the minds of government officials that they didn’t want to risk having another situation similar to this with the Chinese. There were some very relevant points to be considered such as the Chinese were only contributing their wages to society if it was absolutely necessary for their survival. They would live in the worst of conditions and eat as little as possible to try to save as much as they could to take back to their families in China. This is a very real problem because they start to become leeches, for lack of a better word, and they put none of their wages back into the US economy. This could in turn hurt the economy if too many of the immigrants were living this kind of
Because of the large amounts of profit they were making, they ended up buying more land and equipment on credit. However, when the war ended, the economy was disastrous once again, with farmers having to default onto this credit as a result of a lower amount of profit they were making. To fix these economic problems, Harding implemented a number of economic policies. The Secretary of the Treasury, Andrew Mellon, passed the Fordney-McCumber Tariff Act was passed, which allowed Harding to raise any tariff by 50%. The act also emplaced the Tariff of 1922.
Canada had a very high lack of employment in which the Chinese had good opportunities to get jobs to be able to buy land, grow their own crops to feed their families. In 1858 gold was discovered along the Fraser River in British Columbia. There was a high demand for minors so that encouraged even more Chinese immigrants to come to Canada. To conclude the loyalists had a harder immigration than the Chinese because of the war and the complications of them being exiled from their own
This injustice took place in 1866; after a decade of injustice behaviors that the Chinese Americans received in all places such as being banned from certain jobs and the Anti – Chinese law in the state constitution of 1877, which took place after this case. In the preamble it says “we the people” and if they meant it then anyone should be able to testify in court. Also it states that “we the people,” “will secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves.” This that we promote justice; if that was true then it wouldn’t matter what culture we were because we are all Americans and justice would have been served to the criminal in the case. In the world of the Chinese Americans’ no rules apply, they are treated in a way that is not acceptable to the American lifestyle. They were not treated equally by the federal government or society and all three of these cases have shown the injustices and trials that the Chinese Americans have suffered.
The American westward movement was a movement from 1783 the independence of United States to 1861 The Civil War broke out, American people colonial expansion from east to west step by step. The westward movement turned to be one of the most important historical events under the needs of science ,population ,policy ,etc. Also, as a large population migration, the westward movement had its own history background and characters different from other migration movement. First, the westward movement was not a kind of overseas colonization like Europe countries but a “domestic colonization”,a emerging country exploit frontier movement. Second, the westward movement was a spontaneous movement, the most important character was popularity.
