Multiple divisions were added and then removed from the company and it eventually settled down focusing on what it did best; making mattresses Simmons started experiencing lack of coordination and motivation amongst the employees during its “downfall period”. Instead of working towards a common goal, there was competition amongst the different manufacturing plants. An innovation in cost savings or efficient production procedures discovered by one plant was not shared with the other plants. Moreover, the terrorist attacks of September 11th made the situation for Simmons even worse. U.S. economy suffered greatly after that incident.
Thus, resulting in the loss of local businesses and resentment toward the franchise. With the known moral standards, moral impact, and ethical beliefs the moral and ethical problem lies in whether we can build or not at Petosky. We look at this case from three different perspectives. Choosing to view this case from the economic outcomes we see that if Wal Mart is built, it may incur a share price decrease because of the upset and disdain community. Furthermore there are large and vast external costs to the community.
In regard to the company's plan to cut 15 percent of its workforce he protests, "Nestle can't do whatever it likes? He says, "There are men and women who work here? Morally speaking the water and the gas stored below this ground belong to the whole region.? (From attached file) Misunderstanding (communication problems; inadequate information) average. Management does not agree, perhaps due to a lack of information of the real problem (what is causing the lower production at this plant?)
When they do have inspectors come in, they tell the people who work there to lie. If they lie then they are rewarded, but if they tell the truth they are either terminated from their position or, in some cases, punished. Along with the terrible work conditions in the factories outside of the United States, the employees who work within the U.S. are treated terribly. From the amount they are paid to the discrimination to the lies that they tell. “In 2001, the average pay of a Wal-Mart worker was $8.23 per hour, more than two dollars less per hour than the average supermarket employee wage of $10.35 per hour.
In addition to, Walmart expanded the U.K.’s retailing expertise. However, the company was faced with great opposition in Germany and eventually move out of the country completely. Because of its expensive struggles, geographical differences, and cultural dissimilarities. Walmart tried to match its productive U.S. model in Germany, but found that it did not work in Germany. Wertkauf had stores that were geographically distant and commonly in poor locations, and the U.S. managers Walmart selected to run its new operations made a number of cultural errors.
The analysis of the employees working at the Hondo plant shows that it is very detrimental to move the plant to Mexico because all employees will lose their jobs. A + was given for scheduling the heavy work because this will ensure that no jobs are lost. The customers were given a - for moving to Mexico for the reason that all of the expenses of relocating may cause product prices to rise. Otherwise, customers are not much of a factor in this decision making. The community of Hondo was given --- for moving to Mexico because a high percentage of employment comes from the plant and closing it would be crushing to the economy of Hondo.
In my opinion, I quite agree with him. He also states "People lost their jobs because factories were losing orders". This implies that people in 1848 couldn't even afford food with or without the food prices rising. Therefore, I wouldn't agree on that statement. Many people had signed the petition because they were fighting for their rights.
Wal-Mart like to portray itself as a seller of American products however the main problem is that it outsources all of its work and is full of shelves with items mad in foreign countries, mainly China. As a result many American manufactures are going out of business. I believe that Wal-Mart has many negatives such as not treating it employees fairly and should be required to sell a certain amount of American products. The first criticism of Wal-Mart is the way it treats it employees. Yes, Wal-Mart provides many uneducated Americans with job however it isn’t a job from which can make livable wage.
In industries where jobs have been harmed (which are mainly manufacturing industries), the mechanism behind government involvement has been mainly union pressures. Unions are there to advocate for workers rights and benefits and they have found themselves at a disadvantaged position due to globalization, as many of their workers lose jobs. As well, unions feel as though they can no longer advocate for better treatment to their employers because their employers can then simply chose to move their jobs overseas, where there are no employee rights. As a result, groups like the American Auto Workers’ Association have been outspoken about their vehement opposition to trade liberalization policies. (source, quote).
It is easier to get up and go to work if does not feel like “work”. I think that intrinsic factors are very important, because it will keep you employed for years to come. Intrinsic factors at a job can make all the other issues that exist irrelevant. Extrinsic Extrinsic factors are working for health benefits, pay, or bonuses. Many times we often find ourselves at a job that we don’t like simply because that is what pays the bills.
