Waiting For Superman For a nation that proudly declared it would leave no child left behind, America continues to do so at alarming rates. Despite increased spending and politicians’ promises, our buckling public education system, once the best in the world, routinely forsakes the education of millions of children. After watching the documentary,” Waiting On Superman” it reveals heartbreaking struggles the students must overcome in their quest for a better education. Their hope is to win a lottery that will gain them admittance to a charter school which will provide them with the education they need to succeed. There are five unforgettable statistics or should I say children that they used in the movie. 1. Anthony never knew is mother, and after losing his dad to drugs in 2004, he started to act out in class. He stopped caring about his grades and had to repeat second grade. 2. Daisy is a fifth grade who lives in Los Angeles, where she is about to enter one of the worst performing middle schools in Los Angeles, however Daisy has big dreams to become a veterinarian. 3. Emily is an eighth grader in California who wants to become a teacher. She lives in an affluent neighborhood with schools that boast high graduation rates. 4. Francisco is a first grader in Bronx, New York who goes to a public school where students are not performing high test scores, however his mother is a social worker that is the first person in her family to graduate from college and attend the same school that her son is now attending. She is doing everything that she can afford to make sure that her son becomes successful. 5. Bianca is a kindergarten who was attending a private school and it cost her mother $500 a month, however her mother is a receptionist and her hours where cut back so she could not make her payments on time and Bianca could not attend her graduation.
