This affected black Americans and ethnic minorities because most of the people that came under that class were on the poverty program, so they opposed the war. The public opinion of the war in America was mainly against the US involvement in Vietnam. When the public heard that America were pulling out of the war they felt as if all the men who had died, had died for nothing. The tactics of the Vietcong were guerilla warfare. This was the type of warfare that the American’s were not use to fighting in.
A great contributor to this issue was racism among the white population. Whites in both the North and South felt that they should not have to compete with blacks for jobs and felt that they should be a submissive race like they were before. Many whites were horrified and insulted at the fact that blacks were trying to get employment in any other job other than farming and field
Racism and socially unfair treatment to African Americans were very prominent during the nineteenth and twentieth century. African Americans were treated inferiorly compared to whites; who were treated superiorly. African Americans were not treated as citizens; therefore, respect, employments, and education were almost impossible to come across during this time. Had it not had been for the roles of black leadership in the black community, more than likely, this would have remained an issue for much longer than it did. One of the black men to take responsibility for the rest of his fellow people and participate in black leadership was William Edward Burghardt, "W. E.
One could describe him as a man who hated his own race because like whites he saw them as being incapable of bringing about change or gaining the respect of White Americans. Moreover, in his eyes blacks are the reason that no changes occurred after the war, which is the leading factor to his internalized racism towards them. In addition to Sergeant Waters’s attitude towards the black military his death also depicts blacks versus blacks. The death of Waters shows that not only did he hate those of his kind but that they hated him as well because of his ill treatment of them. The film offers increased racial tension among blacks themselves by allowing the murder to be committed by, Peterson, who is a black soldier.
He asks Richard what the co-workers had said and that they would be punished but Richard’s fear is too great and just accepts his pay and leaves. White supremacy is shown clearly in this instance where his co-workers feel that they had every right to scare a child and make him feel completely inferior. They did not want African Americans to feel like they had a voice, equality and certainly did not want blacks to feel as if they were someone of importance. The fact that Southern whites fear and discourage black migration to the North exposes the degree to which their pride and even their very economic welfare depends on the presence of blacks. Racism is a means to an end, as oppressors employ racist measures in order to achieve power over another group.

He criticised the ruling arguing that it would do nothing to change the hearts and minds of southern white racists. He believed that it was counterproductive. It had just infuriated white citizens and whipped up tremendous opposition to Civil Rights. He claimed that his decision to make ‘Earl Warren’ Chief Justice was ‘the biggest damned-fool mistake I ever made’ Civil Rights Organisations: They began the fight for
Because of the expansion of free African Americans, many white people feared the thought of competing with another races. In particular, the white workers feared that African Americans were taking their jobs. The thought of an African American who was once enslaved receiving the same job opportunities as an American citizen bothered the white people in society.
Others however believed that Obama’s inauguration would serve no real change and possibly promote further hostility from the large number of white supremacist groups across the nation (a majority of which located in the south) creating further rifts between cultures. Supporters of the argument that a black president has helped the USA overcome racial divisions would argue that it has led to the appointment of a more racially diverse cabinet. This shows
Because Of the variety of races and ethnicities they has been a targeted by various predominantly white organizations. Obama himself has been accused of not being a citizen of America just because of his ethnicity. A great number of Americans did not want to see Obama or any other politician holding such a powerful job just because of the color of their
