Many people are afraid to walk down their streets these days and parents whose kids join gangs often do not know how to handle this situation or how to help them out of this lifestyle. Many of the young teenagers joining a gang end up in prison destroying their futures. As many gangs perform violent crimes that affect a lot of people, it is important to understand the causes of why they form, why kids are eager to join them and what can be done to prevent them from doing this. The functionalist perspective is a good angle to look at this problem and shows how the breakdowns of various social institutions are leading to gangs and why kids join them. This perspective holds that problems of social institutions
In this day and age no one should live in the conditions that the third world people are subjected to. #2 Crime affects us all on some level rather it is directly or indirectly. Street crimes such as drug dealing, robbery, and murder are high in urban areas, and poverty stricken areas causing unsafe living conditions. Innocent people being killed in the crossfire of a drug deal gone bad. Parents strung out on drugs, which leads to child neglect and child abuse.
In today's world, children as young social individuals can't protect themselves as easily as adults. Therefore, they have been faced with many difficulties in their lives such as abuse, illiteracy or violence. Violence against children is one of the most appalling problems in America, it is the most shocking thing about this issue that children are abused by those that have the responsibility to look after and care for them. In America there are several reasons and ways children are kidnapped, killed, raped and so on. Violence against children it doesn’t happens only in America it happens everywhere, in every country and society and across all social groups, but America is the highest in violence against children.
Youth Violence an Epidemic Violence is one of the most problematic issues we face in society today. To most people, the most ridiculous and noticeable violence is youth crime. Youth violence has become a lifestyle that includes drugs, guns, gangs, and murder. Contributing factors to the problem stem from lack of parental supervision and guidance, social and peer pressures, and violence on television. Everything from school shootings to capital murder, it is apparent that the problem is only getting worse.
Children lives in fear, stress, depress and suffer from psychosocial problems as they have to face violence and military outpost near their school and their housing areas. The poor economy
Gangs in Society Gangs are a major problem in today’s society. Gangs such as MS, a criminal gang originated by Salvadoran immigrants, take place in our neighborhoods and corrupt the young children who are easily influenced by the violent behavior as well. Many gangs threaten the safety of everyone in their neighborhood. Innocent people living in gang war towns live in constant fear of death. However, for children who have no one to look up to and no future to look forward to, gangs can become their new family.
The Effect of the Family Membership in a street gang has an extremely detrimental effect on the lives of the young males who join them. Gang members “engage in more violent crimes and have more police contact than non-gang members” (Craig et al. 54) and are also more likely to engage in binge drinking and the use and sale of other drugs (Hawkins, Hill and Lui 1). Gang members also have a negative impact on their communities because of their proclivity towards crime. There are a lot of factors that can push someone towards gang membership, but the extremely young age of many gang members asks us what role does the young boy’s family play in his path to gang membership?
These incidents remind us that kids are capable of disturbing behavior, no matter what age. Because of the severity of these cases, the juvenile system has become a gravely issue concerning correctional professionals and policy makers (Clear, 471). The history of juvenile corrections is quite dire compared to what we have accomplished today. In the 1600’s, the Elizabeth Poor Laws were established to place delinquent children under the care of the Church wardens and overseers. Most ended up in poorhouses and working houses, working under oppressed conditions that were closely viewed as slavery (Clear, 471).
Gang violence cause a lot of families a lot of pain. Gang violence has a major impact on my community here are three reason; most of the victims are young children or pre-teens, we lose our sense of security when we walk out of our homes, and the loss of a loved one to gang violence. Gang violence is senseless and stupid and cause our communities a lot of problems. Most of the victims of gang violence are young children and pre-teens. Some may live and some may die but a lot of the victims in my neighborhood are children who don’t have anything to do with what is going on just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Introduction Violence in the media is one of the most common and dangerous form of infrastructure which has a major affect on children right from the very beginning, all from the comfort of their own home. Children are continuously exposed to many forms of violent acts which are depicted within the media everyday. This can be from something as simple as a cartoon character in a tv show lashing out, to a realistic murder in a tv show or video game. As children get older, the over exposure to these materials can lead to children developing certain psychological behaviours which they use in everyday life without even realizing it. Violence in the media cause children-teens in particular-to become aggressive towards others-especially when they are under a lot of stress.
