Restrepo The documentary Restrepo portrayed war life in the most vivid way. Blood and Gory didn’t need to be shown for viewers to understand the hardships that come with being a soldier. Restrepo, showed the real emotion behind war, and situations that make average life seem like a piece of cake. Soldiers step out knowing the risks and the consequences, but step out with pride to fight for their country. With firefights, life and death situations, and the mourning of their fellow soldiers, Restrepo showed that when it comes to war, even when we win, everyone still loses.
Brandon Klinetobe Donna Robertson English 101 16 October 2011 Speechwriters throughout history have considered their word choice, imagery and what others have said before them when creating their own speeches. William Safire in “A Spirit Reborn” analyzes the use of reading “The Gettysburg Address” at the first anniversary of September 11 and James Wood in “Victory Speech” analyses Barack Obama’s November 2008 speech on election night. Safire and Wood analyze similar key factors in their discussion of the power and impact of Lincoln and Obama’s speeches. Both articles analyze the diction in the speeches of Obama and Lincoln. In “A Spirit Reborn,” William Safire chooses to point out the word choices of Lincoln’s speech that continue
However, at all times I stand ready to accept the fact that I could receive that phone call telling me to pack my bags, I am being deployed. Many people do not understand what soldiers go through both physically and mentally while on serving or how close they come to dying every single day to keep us safe here in America. Therefore, when I hear the word “Hero,” a soldier is the first person that comes to mind. Public Safety personnel are just ad heroic as soldiers, just in a different way. While soldiers protect us outside the United States, public safety personnel protect us inside the United States, in our hometowns.

With our size and scale, we believe it’s our responsibility to lead on important issues, and one example is our commitment to veterans who have served our nation. Our founder, Sam Walton, instilled in our company a deep respect for our men and women in uniform – a respect that has only increased through the years. On Memorial Day, Wal-Mart began offering a job to any honorably discharged veteran within his or her first 12 months off active duty who meets our standard hiring criteria. We expect to hire over 100,000 U.S. veterans over the next five years. Adding associates from the military means that we will be gaining experience from one of the most diverse talent-rich pools in the world.
Patrick O’Rourke ENG 101 - M & W 4:00 – 5:15 “A Serviceman’s Story” Few things on the earth are more terrible than war, seeing families and communities torn apart for reasons that aren’t always clear. It takes a certain kind of person to have the bravery to volunteer to be a soldier in one of the most infamous conflicts in American history, the Vietnam War. That is why I chose to interview a close friend of my grandfather – Les Herman. While my grandfather was not in the war, he has heard many stories from Les over the years and advised me that he would be an interesting person to interview. He was not wrong in that respect, Les is a great man that has led an eventful life.
But by the end of November we finished the promise to all of our fallen comrades and started thinking to ourselves for thinking that we would not be the Lone Survivors.
