The University of La Verne’s core values have been present in my life throughout the years. Even though my mother wanted to attend college as I did, she didn’t have the option to so and that’s why she encourages me to try my hardest in school. When my mother was young, she dreamed of attending college in the United States and getting a job so she could support her family, whereas when I was small, I didn’t think school was important. Although my mother only attended elementary school, school was one of her top priorities because she felt like it was an honor to go to school, and if you went to school, you were considered to be lucky. My mother was an over-achiever and saw education as a way of showing that she was better than most.

Callums’s monologue ‘Which one means more-being someone or making a difference?’-Lynny’s words; I never thought that this one, small question could have possibly been something to do with my poor Lynny’s death. In the beginning of the essay Pharient refrains to a statement that students hear every day, “You want get anywhere without your education (635).” This is a statement that many teachers and parents repeatedly preach to their child since they were kindergartener’s. Pharinet also explains in a reasonable tone, that having a college degree doesn’t always bring success in most students’ life. Mainly because, students are not properly preparing themselves to what seems to be the “real world”.
Rose was in the vocational education program in is high school and didn't need to be. Mike Rose attended an all boy religion based school called Our Lady of Mercy. Previous to entering this school he had to take a placement exam and somehow his exam got mixed up with another kid named Rose. Apparently the other Rose needed to be in the vocational program and as a result Mike was placed there. Being that his parents didn't know much about the American school system, he couldn't know much about it, and he continued to attend the vocational program not knowing that he shouldn't be in it.
Preventing Stress in College High school did not prepare me for collegiate paced learning. There are many areas in which I feel high school failed to prepare me. I was not taught time management skills. I never felt that I was responsible for my own learning. I knew that the teacher would tell me what I needed to know for a test.

PHYCHOSOCIAL THEORY ON HUMAN DEVELOPMENT STEPHANIE STURDIVANT PSY 202 Russell Fail January 31, 2011 I never thought I would be 36 years old and writing a paper like this one. I had planned to go to college right after high school, but life does not always happen according to plan. In this paper, I will present a brief description of a few of my life experiences that have helped shape the person I am today and analyze some of these experiences using the adult development theories from this class. I will also look ahead to the goals I want to accomplish in the future. I was born in Connecticut but raised in a small community in Eutaw, Alabama, to a family of five that loved and worked hard to take care of us.
