Running head: ACCOMADATIONS Providing Appropriate Accommodations in the classroom /kids with Epilepsy Carolyn Lake ESE 315: Survey of Exceptional Children Instructor: Stacey Brown June 31, 2013 ACCOMADATIONS For students that suffer from epilepsy the classroom is one place away from home that should have the right accommodations that are right for the needs of the individual. Epilepsy is known as a seizure disorder that is brought on by abnormality in the brain where an abrupt forceful rush of electricity disturbs all or parts of the human brain. Seizures can last as long as so many minutes, with symptoms that can be different from another such as “convulsions and loss of consciousness, to signs such as blank staring, lip smacking, or jerking movements of arms and legs.” (NICHCY, 2010) Not all seizures are due to epilepsy for instance “many young children have convulsions from fevers. Other types of seizures not classified as epilepsy include those caused by an imbalance of body fluids or chemicals or by alcohol or drug withdrawal. Thus, a single seizure does not mean that the person has epilepsy. Generally speaking, the diagnosis of epilepsy is made when a person has two or more unprovoked seizures.” (NICHCY, 2010) The first accommodation that could…show more content…
This is great because the student can re-listen to the recording when they to get to a part of the work they can not figure out and by being able listening to the instructions as many times as possible because if you keep going over something eventually your going to get it and this done without any pressure on the student. The use of audio is a great benefit and an accommodation that would take the stress out of the day for the student. (NICHCY,
