In my personal experience I have not received a birthday card or thank you card in a long time. Now in days email is the fastest way to communicate in seconds .The world we live in today is fast paced and ever changing. If the United States service is unable to adapt to our changing society they will no longer have a place in it. The USPS needs to consider making changes to their systems or they will soon go out of business. The USPS has many important needs for the economy and record keeping of this nation. Therefore it is very necessary that it restructures itself to keep up with constant change in society. As the USPS is right now, it will fail to advance any further. People are far more likely to send an email or text message than writing someone a letter, so the USPS must adapt. Source A suggest that the post office needs to get into the electronic business. They could start by assigning each person an email address from birth. There are also a great number of ways to advertise online. They need to make it more well known that their lower prices are helpful in these economic times. The post office could also have special holiday deals and coupons that you could print online to lure people to the post office. The time for USPS to expand and try new things is now. Source A brought up the idea from David Houle saying that USPS should try to gain control over government broadband. Houle states, “that would define the postal service, rather than just a team of letter carriers”. Having control over internet access would re-brand USPS. It would also give them the freedom to advertise however they wish. A chart in source B shows that the amount of mail that needs to be delivered has greatly decrease over the past two years. The USPS needs to work on streamlined and more effective method of sending mail. Source C states how Potter plans to improve the system. It states, “that could mean an end to Saturday delivers, longer delivery times for letters and packages, higher postage-stamp prices that exceed the rate inflation...” I however, disagree with the methods they are using to attempt to improve the system. I think instead of cutting back on hours, more should work to get mail to a place quickly and efficiently. Since our world is all about doing things fast, why have it take longer for mail to be delivered.
