Twins By: Eric Wright The short story “Twins” is written by Eric Wright. At first the short story may seem a bit confusing but as you re-read the whole story again, it will give you a better understanding of what it is all about. In these next few paragraphs, the setting, theme, plot, characters and stylistic elements of the short story will be summarized and again, will give the reader a better understand of what the story is all about. First is setting. The setting of this short story is, it takes place in the 1990’s. The story itself takes place in Toronto, Detroit and Sudbury all at different times in the story. The couple were taking a road trip and stayed in a motel. The mood of the setting in the beginning is dark and frightening and he says the sky is gray. It ends in the same setting. There are 2 main characters in this short story, the husband and the wife. The husband is a very developing character. He is mysterious because you see him as having one personality until closer to the end he changes. He loves to tell stories. He is the protagonist. Where as the wife is more calm and collective. Her true colors don’t show until closer to the end. She is the antagonist. Fifth and final thing mentioned is the stylistic elements. One stylistic element that is shown in this short story is the way the author wrote the story. How in the beginning he made it seem like it was a story (which it was) but then in the end it turned out being a real murder case. In conclusion, the short story “Twins”, written by Eric Wright is a great short story.
