The gas van was used in the same way, but instead of using Zyklon B, the Nazi officers used the exhaust fumes that come out of the vans. The officers gathered large groups of Jews and deposited them in vans filled with exhaust fumes (Camps page 3). The second most frequently used method of killing the Jews was shooting them. By using this method, the SS officers had to somehow dispose of the dead bodies. The officers forced others to excavate quarries in the ground as a place for the dead bodies.
Julia Alvarez believes that it is the duty of those who survived the struggle to provide stories for everyone else about the ones who did not. She stated in her Authors note that “it is the responsibility of those who survive the struggle for freedom to give testimony, to tell the story in order to keep alive the memory of those that died”. There have been many tragic events in history that we wouldn’t know very much about if the people, who survived it, didn’t tell the horror stories they went through. One major event in history that changed the world forever was the Holocaust. The holocaust was one of the most damaging events that affected the entire world and is still affecting it today.
Normally Jews were killed in the chambers by carbon monoxide, but that was not enough for Hoess, he needed to go above and beyond with the way he exterminated an entire race. In 1941 he was given orders from Adolf Eichman of the “Final Solution” to the Jewish question. Rudolf Hoess was a Perpetrator for he conducted many acts that were morally wrong or criminal. Hoess’s original decision to join Hitler’s
When and why did Auschwitz become the symbol of the Holocaust? Auschwitz became the site of Nazi Germany’s largest camp complex and extermination centre for European Jews and has represented the brutality of the National Socialist regime and its war crimes against humanity. Since its liberation in January 1945 by the Red army, it has undeniably become a symbol of the Holocaust. However, ‘the symbolic value of Auschwitz has not been a fixed sum, but has remained in flux and open to interpretation’, therefore the theses surrounding its symbolism must be discussed. Auschwitz has been labelled the ‘largest cemetery in the history of humanity’ and this essay will seek to explore why and when it became the predominant attribute of Holocaust History.
Hitler was a great leader in a horrible way. These days most people believe that Hitler was a nasty person because of the holocaust he created but what did people think about Hitler during his days. Powerful, a person who spoke out his thoughts, which all were good ideas to the Germans and so eventually he climbed up the hierarchy ladder and reached the top and in 1933 he became the Chancellor of Germany. Hitler was strongly against the Treaty of Versailles. He didn’t like the fact that 15% of their land was taken by all the winning countries.
Maybe during Holocaust most people had lost their beliefs on god and started blaming him, so god might have stopped his wish of saving them since they had no faith him. In my opinion I disagree with the statement because Hitler was the one who started the Holocaust. He started the Holocaust because he hated the Jews for everything; he disliked their politics, art and social life. So he blamed Jews for the lost of World War one.
Although Germany was an educated and economically developed country, their leader---Hitler hated Jews a lot. Hitler tried many ways to make Jews look bad and then he could have abundant excuses to kill them. He was a good leader, he leaded the Germany become strong again, but he was also breaking out a gloomy Holocaust in Germany. The Holocaust was the shame of the Germany; the Nazis killed millions of harmless Jews. Just because Jews are richer and smarter than Germans, Hitler was jealous; just because Hitler wanted a higher race in Germany; just because they lost the World War I, they didn’t want to admit their losing.
Those who were unaware of the crimes committed by the Nazis were not responsible for their government's actions, such as in the cases of Junge and Knappe. Those who were aware of the crimes committed and were in a position to protest them, but didn't should be held responsible for keeping silent. All of the individuals that kept silent during the Nazis reign allowed the Holocaust to happen. Although not directly responsible, the Holocaust and WWII would not have been possible if so many people hadn't kept
Hindenburg couldn't oppose against the public's choice otherwise he would be going against the democratic ‘Weimar republic’ regulation of including the people’s views. Overall, Hitler’s popularity with the nation was one of the main reasons why he was appointed as chancellor. He promised things to a variation of people that not many other politicians had offered. Secondly, because of the propaganda that was responsible for the change of peoples view's of the
The German people resented the fact that they alone were blamed for the war. The job of creating a peace agreement seemed relatively simple, but it soon became clear that there were conflicting ideas and motives from each country. The United States wanted fair rules and
