To what extent is globalisation a cultural process? (30 marks) Cultural process can be defined as when ethnic and cultural traditions are conveyed spanning generations and changed by the impacts continuing to effect each. Globalisation occurs when the process in which businesses and other organisations begin to operate on an international scale and therefore expand as a whole. Through today’s society, it can be recognised and shown that the more economically developed countries are helping the lesser developed countries to grow by themselves through the use of technology and helping make their economy be successful and grow. The Western way of today’s society is becoming more and more normal as well as a functional way of living in the growing NIC and LEDC countries. Lesser developed countries such as Pakistan can have a big influence on MEDC countries such as the UK because of the growing factor of different religions being acceptable in more developed countries. This can be seen as a cultural process of globalisation. Over the years Islam has become more acceptable in the UK because of migration patterns, meaning more Muslim people are living there and therefore people who originally lived there cooperate with them more easily. Whereas on the other hand if there was a mass migration of Christian people to Pakistan and tried to convert Muslim people to Christianity and build Churches there would be an uproar because those who live in Pakistan for example would not be used to different cultures and find it very hard to accept it and maybe even adapt. This has caused various conflicts across the world (religions moving to new countries) which in turn has led to an increase in terrorist activities over the past 20 years.
