To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee tells a story about a little girl, Scout, and her father, Atticus, who is a white man. He has to defend a black, Tom Robinson, who has been accused of raping a young white girl, Mayella Ewell. This book had many themes that all taught a valuable lesson, such as: individuals have a right to protect the innocent, people often fear what they don’t understand, and the most important part of a child’s education may take place in the home and community rather than in the school.
