For instance the movie Titanic (Cameron, J. Titanic.1997), with the early scenes beginning with the underwater salvage of several objects off of the wrecked ship. We are also introduced to one of the main characters, Rose, as an old lady. The beginning of the film, actually appears near the end in terms of the sequence of chronological events, and therefore becomes an example of prolepsis. The viewer learns the ending with the ship now resting at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, before the event actually occurs. Although the history of the Titanic is generally known, therefore it then becomes dramatic irony, but purely in the case of the movies narrative it is a good example of prolepsis.
Stephanie Eshleman Mrs. Scherer English 102 3T The Infamous Deaths of Glory “She went down in all her glory,” is a common phrase heard when talking about the Titanic, and no, not the movie. The poem “Titanic” by David R. Slavitt tells the tale of this infamously famous ship as if it were some sort of fairy tale ending. Slavitt tries to soothe the harsh reality of the sinking by stating that “the cries on all sides must be a comfort” (13). To say that it is a comfort to die along with others is true, as many people want someone by their death beds, even third class steerage. However, in the anesthetic cold water the first class and some steerage were dying together (12).

Uhler explains, the expedition consisted of an impressive collection of scientists, artists, photographers and writers to explore the Alaska coast, from the southeast boundary all the way to the Seward Peninsula. Members of the expedition spent five days in Glacier Bay, and collected a wealth of data along with some memorable adventures. Soon after the Harriman party departed, the tourism and exploration in Glacier Bay came to an abrupt halt. According to Uhler, “In September 1899, a massive earthquake shattered the Muir Glacier. Masses of floating ice prevented ships from closely approaching the glacier for at least a decade, and the steamship companies removed Glacier Bay from their itineraries.” Over the next few decades, Uhler states; Glacier Bay belonged to a hardy assortment of scientists and adventurous entrepreneurs, as well as native seal hunters, fishermen and egg-gatherers.
Titanic Presentation Notes * Process Used to Find the Titanic: (Bobby) * Discovered by Robert Ballard on September 1st, 1985 * Logbook of the Californian enabled Ballard to estimate the speed and direction of drift of the lifeboats. * The Californian was between five to ten miles away from the Titanic at the time of the disaster and reported in its log that they had experienced drift * Also Ballard knew that the Titanic had to be north of where the lifeboats were found * Titanic stemmed from a secret United States Navy investigation of two wrecked nuclear submarines * For 6 days, the Argo searched the sea floor and nothing came up. “Gentlemen Your Verdict” by Michael Bruce, is a story that begins in a court room. The men in the courtroom were survivors of a submarine crash. There were 20 men in the submarine originally at the beginning of their trip. But when they crashed at the bottom of the ocean, the captain estimated that it would take a week for rescue, and the crew had 3 days of air. Someone had to go, but whom?
In January 2012 the Costa Concordia capsized off of the coast of Italy. Local and international headlines began to compare the Costa Concordia to the Titanic. On the Canadian television website CTV.ca the headline grabbing our attention, and trying to persuade future cruise passengers was “Titanic to Costa Concordia, has safety at sea improved?” (CTV.ca). This is an unfair headline. The Costa Concordia is the first ship to capsize due to human error since the Titanic.
