Judith Davis American Intercontinental University Unit 1 Individual Project MKTG 205 – Principles of Marketing 07/22/2012 Abstract Tide Pods laundry detergent is used in millions of households around the world on a daily basis. This product was first introduced in the United States on February 2012. Tide Pods Introduction The average household washes 400 loads of laundry per year according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Tide Pods are pre-dosed liquid pods that are concentrated Tide detergent. They are packaged in single doses that are very convenient and easy to use for consumers. The pods dissolve completely, except for the outer packaging which has a smaller environmental impact through reduced packaging. Market Force 1: Governmental Environment If a company fails to comply with government rules and regulations there could be fines, sanctions, and other legal actions taken against them. Tide Pods has faced new laws and regulations due to child endanger alerts. There have been accidental children poisoning incidents, which led to the government stepping in. Tide Pods has since decided to put a double latch on the lids to make them more kid proof. This year alone 2012, there were more than 250 pod poisoning accidents reported within the United States. (LaCapria, 2012). Tide Pods (P&G) are working with the American Cleaning Institute to educate and promote the safe handling, use, and disposal of all laundry detergents, and to remind everyone that cleaning products must be kept out the reach of children. (Proctor Gamble, 2012).The government is working on new laws to negotiate over issues like safety standards, new chemicals and testing requirements.
