There is an ongoing debate on whether drug testing of welfare recipients is legal in many of the local state governments. This paper hopes to expand on some of those topics in a pro vs. con setting. The Pros and Cons of Drug Testing Welfare Recipients Pros - Most jobs require drug testing before and during employment Testing poor and working people for drugs is not a new idea. It’s a trend that picked up significant steam during the war on drugs when in 1986, President Ronald Reagan issued an executive order requiring all federal job applicants to pee in a cup. The order was quickly followed by the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, which required employers with federal grants to keep their businesses drug-free.
They would be more likely to drink one or two more cans of soda rather than eating a snack or a full meal. Of course people need food to survive, but the extra calories they consume with sugar-sweetened beverages are not essential to a healthy lifestyle. In the past, taxes on tobacco have been extremely effective in reducing consumption. The goal with the soda tax is it could produce the same results. I feel as though the parents of today’s generation do not have as much of an impact on their children like they used too.
Eric Scholsser gives information about how today’s modern industrial food system has changed what most Americans eat in their daily lives. The national uniformity for food Act of 2005 was passed and this shows how companies work hard to keep consumers in the dark (Scholsser 396).New laws such as this prevent states from having food safety. Safety regulations like keeping lead out of children’s candy and warning pregnant women of dangerous ingredients would no longer be told and informed to consumers (Scholsser 396).This system operates by harming consumers, mistreating animals and pollute the land. Letting the public have awareness would be a good thing that could change the US food system. Michael Pollan article brings forth information
There were two main ways alcohol was illegally distilled: from “scratch” or by distilling denatured industrial alcohol. From scratch involved relatively few health risks because it mimicked the traditional distilling practice of mixing yeast, corn sugar, and water. However, alcohol made from denatured industrial alcohol, intended for manufacturing items such as antifreeze, camera film, and synthetic fabrics, could be deadly if improperly distilled. Most forms of denatured alcohol were poisonous by design, infused with toxic elements so that they could no be consumed. However, bootleggers were undeterred and were able to remove the toxins by redistilling the alcohol—most of the time.
While, CVS will lose an astounding 1.5 billion dollars annually, they are not worried about that, because they are improving the quality of their stores and it highlights that they are focused on the well being of their customers Also, by CVS making this bold move it shows they care more for their customers then they do about a popular product making money. While CVS is not the first franchise to stop the sale of tobacco products, they are one of the first pharmacies to stop the sale of tobacco products. This is not only a huge step for CVS but, this potentially could lead to other big name pharmacies to follow in CVS’ footsteps. Finally, CVS has got the approval of the most significant person, President Obama. In an article written by Elizabeth Landau, from CNN, President Obama calls CVS’ halt on tobacco
By allowing the use of Soma, the citizen can completely drown personal sorrows and find an escape from reality. A citizen would be told “take a holiday from reality whenever you like, and come back without so much as a headache or a mythology” (Huxley, 37). By taking this drug, the population can feel better and create a positive feeling to the ruling power that supply’s their happiness. The government holds control over the apathetic and one-minded population. Stability was practically assured within the population (Huxley, 38).
This will educate on what to do when they start to suspect that they have small pox. Moreover, we will go to schools in order to educate students on what to do when they have small pox. A lot of research and studies has been done over the years and we will like to let the citizen know that even we don’t have small pox here in the United states but we have never relaxed to always research more on this disease so we will like to assure that the vaccines we will be providing is not outdated because we understand that a lot of diseases are becoming resistant to vaccines and drugs. The outcome of this plan in terms of success will be measured by online and registered
Work related injuries can be costly on the company if the employee is found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. Another reason companies should promote a drug free workplace is to reduce the number of early dismissals, absences, and tardies of employees. Offering drug tests is a simple way to discourage the use of drugs and/or alcohol by employees. Statistics show that employees that use drugs are more likely o have a workplace accident by 3.6 times and are more likely to create a workers’ compensation report by 5
The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 needs to be amended once again if we are to keep our children safe in these perilous times. A recent study has shown that the majority of child sexual crimes are committed by relatives and/or friends (Steinbock). Knowing these criminals are in our communities does not deter them from committing this heinous crime against children. According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, there are 603,000 registered sex offenders in the U.S. and another100, 000 sexual offenders are noncompliant, and many are simply missing. “One in five girls and one in ten boys will be sexually victimized in some way before they reach the age of 18.
