Everyone has their own individual personality, it is every individuals characteristic way of how they think, feel and act. Though some have similar personalities, we are all different. There were many theories on how a personality is developed like the Hippocrates theory in the 5th century, William Sheldon in the 1940’s and the most influential is Sigmund Freud in the 1800’s. In nowadays there are more reliable theories on how personality is developed through different personality tests. Our personalities can also affect our bodies, the way we think can reflect on how we see ourselves compared to everyone else which can develop disorders such as eating disorders. The Hippocrates theory dates back to the 5th century and the the theory is based on body fluid types. Hippocrates believed that an individual's body contained four basic fluids. Melancholic is people who are depressed and sad and this is due to too much black bile. Chloeric is people who are irritable and short tempered, it is believed this is due to too much yellow bile. Phlegmatic people are slow and lethargic and this is caused by too much phlegm in your body. Saguine people are very cheerful and active and this is due to having too much blood in your body. In the 1940‘s William Sheldon examined the relationship between body build and personality and came up with a theory that links the three body types to a personality each. Endomorph is a large and overweighed body type which is believed to have a social and cheerful personality. A mesomorph had characteristics such as medium weight, strong and muscular and an active and courageous personality. An ectomorph is a tall and skinny body build and is considered to have an artistic and intense personality. One of the most influential theories is by Sigmund Freud in the 1800’s.
