Upton Sinclair’s, The Jungle, is a 1906 novel written about subjects that would eventually change the fabric of America. Sinclair’s novel point out the troubles of the working class. He uses the struggles of blue collar and poverty struck people. The rigorous working conditions and the borderline slave wage made a very hard life for one to support ones family. Also the living conditions were often worse than the actual jobs that one had. For instance, Jurgis and his family were forced to live in barracks where they were susceptible to illness. These barracks were also crowded and it made sleeping very difficult. These poverty driven people also suffered from malnutrition and malnourishment.
