Welfare Today How many of you plan on training for and pursuing in a well paying job in the future? Now how many of you would like to split that well-earned paycheck in half; the check that you worked a good proportion of your life for? Not many of you, right? Well as citizens of the United States you are required to pay certain taxes to support our government as well as our economy. According to The Washington Post, the U.S. Government spends 2 trillion dollars of our tax money on welfare every year!
Assess the impact of state policies and laws on family life. Initially, the government’s aim of state policies and laws was to help and support family life, especially those families who are struggling the most. Some sociologists like functionalists argue that state policies and laws are good as they help the family perform its functions. Others like Marxists and Feminists say that state policies and laws are a bad impact on family life because they help a bad society develop. The New Right also believe that they only encourage diversity in family types and therefore are bad for society.
The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, also known as workfare, was reformed in 2003 to “increase the amount of time people work and provide additional resources for families” (Badertscher, English 11) Workfare is continually getting harder to receive. One can only receive workfare for more than a short period of time if they find a job. Workfare “ignores those without children or with grown children, and has only ever been available to families whose desperate financial circumstances puts the physical health of their dependent children in peril. Workfare can be received for no more than sixty months in one’s lifetime. (welfare is the best way to eliminate poverty…CITE) Federal programs such as the Departments of Agriculture, Labor, and Energy use poverty guidelines to determine the eligibility of recipients.
Some people feel like welfare is bad for society because its just giving people a reason not to work and be lazy. While others feel like without welfare many families will starve because of a job loss or something else. I feel like welfare helps you and is good for you to a certain extent because a lot of people try to live off it so they won’t have to get a job. Everybody has a strong opinion on this subject which makes it interesting to research and learn more about. My group gave out one hundred survey’s to random people of all ages and genders.

Money is spent on the rehabilitation of all inmates and time, but it will affect both the prison and the public in ways we cannot count, like the inmate receives the information and if he or she used it that is good, but if the inmates just brush it aside and go back to the ways of the old habits the money is wasted and cannot make up the money spent on the inmates. The state would ask for more money and because of the increase to of inmates coming in to the jail system, and rising coat to rehabilitate each one. Recommendations would be that most of the inmates that received counseling came back to jail should pay back the state for the monies used try to and rehabilitate the person so as to make it clear that this is what will happen if he or she fails then most of the inmates will think twice before coming back to jail. Parole for an inmate has exhibits a change and that he or she has been good during his or her stay in jail. After a certain amount of time has been served the inmate can come up for parole and if the board believes that he or she has made a change then they could make parole and be release early but if he or she does something bad, they will go back to jail and Finnish out their
The average American in 1972 lived on $11,419 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). The average American now lives on $49,445 (By Dennis Cauchon and Barbara Hansen, USA TODAY). One of the many causes for bad spending habits is credit cards. The rate that the credit card companies lend people who charge things on the card normally is at a federal rate which is near zero. The credit card companies take this nearly free money from the government and loan it out to us as consumers at a 7 percent rate if you have a good credit standing.
A lot of people lie about what they do and do not do and conservatives and liberals ignore it when they know what is happening. There should be requirements for everyone before they get anything from the government. Welfare was formed to save money and to provide better living for all people. There are many
Immigration, damaging or helpful? Immigration has been a problem in the United States since before the country was established. Many citizens and politicians claim that illegal immigration is a hindrance to the country’s economy because immigrants take American jobs and that they don’t pay taxes. They also agree that our government spends too much money in keeping them out. People on the other side of this argument claim that immigrants help by taking unwanted jobs with very little pay, and in doing that they are helping keep the prices of domestic goods down across the country.
Most people have a preconceived notion on how and what Social Security was supposed to do for all citizens. We must take control of our own retirement. Even though people do not save their money any more and rely on the government for more handouts to get by on, most citizens worked and saved their money until they passed on, they made sacrifices to enhance their future, and passed on an easier path for their children. We should not rely on living comfortably on social security because it was set up to give the people in the depression something to look forward to, and it was a supplement to the money a person saved for when he/she could no longer work.
