Revenge is a harmful action that many people never consider the full outcome of what their actions might bring. In William Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet, it can be seen that Polonius deserves some punishment for his interference with Hamlet and his snooping but certainly not the repercussion of death. Additionally, Ophelia is no more innocent than her father, as she is killed by her own madness. Finally, Laertes, Polonius’s son, is rushed back to Denmark to avenge his father’s death, only to result in his own demise. Nonetheless, the main plot following is Prince Hamlet’s attempt to avenge his father’s murder. Revenge is easily able to blind one of what their actions may impose, especially during one’s quest for vengeance. As it is illustrated in William Shakespeare’s, Hamlet, the unintentional consequences of Prince Hamlet’s seek for revenge, consequently costs many characters their lives. How one handles the information of one’s father being murdered is different for everyone. A reaction to news like that could consist of almost anything. Although in Prince Hamlet’s case, he learns of his father’s murder from his father himself, “Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder, Murder? Murder most foul, as in the best it is; But this most foul, strange, and unnatural” (I,V, 30-33). Hamlet is told to avenge the murder of his father by the ghost of King Hamlet. Although he simply plans to put on an anti-disposition and eventually kill whom he believes to be the murderer of his father, Claudius. Being who Hamlet is, he tends to take his time to get things done, which is seen as his attempt to murder Claudius drags on throughout the play. As the play begins to get more climatic and King Claudius is still alive, Hamlet soon begins to lose his patience and cool.
