Also, increased corruption and nepotism, as well as strict regulations on newspapers and other publications particularly angered the students. Thus, the students argued that the Communist Party was not focusing enough on political and economic reforms. The students demanded democracy while carrying signs that read, "Oppose privileges" and "Media must tell the truth". The way Chinese Government reacted Firstly, the Chinese government general secretary of the CPC Zhao Ziyang try to use a peaceful stance of reconciliation towards the protesting students and Chinese people but it prove abortive. Following the resilience from the protesters, the then Chinese paramount leader Deng Xiaoping and other party elders resolved in using force against the protesters.
However, China's revolution differed because the initial democratic establishment led to opposition from the Communist party while the formation of the U.S.S.R faced minimal opposition. In China, the Qing dynasty was ineffective, instead of trying to modernized as early as possible, it squandered what remained of its wealth and in doing so led to heavy losses in influence and power. Similarly, in Russia, The Tsars became ineffective, the decision to enter World War I had brought Russia to its knees socially, politically and economically. The Tsars also faced many scandals that would deface their influence in Russian cities. It was due to these reasons that both China and Russia were seeking to replace the government in power with new ones that would appeal to the population's demands.
Many Chinese Americans or “Chinamen” were unjustly harassed, prosecuted and even killed for reasons that were unprecedented. Although Chinese immigrants have been an important group that helped the U.S economy become stronger; many were denied entrance into the U.S because of the Exclusion Act of 1882. In 1848, the word of
He preferred a small scale of military. However, since today the position and the possession of a good leader are always desired by many covetous men, I suppose that a smart leader today should concern war and the preparation thereof, as Machiavelli advised. Through war, he can consolidate his power, and protect his people as well as his territory. Last year, Chinese government declared to take back one of two Vietnamese famous islands, called Hoang Sa, which belonged to Vietnam for many centuries. Being afraid of inferior if a fight really happened, the Vietnam Communist Government hopelessly gave its island up to China.
Lee: Orientals: Asian Americans in Popular Culture: Yellowface Short summary In this week reading the author talks about the unclear images of Asian Americans have always haunted western popular culture so much so that real flesh and blood Asians living and working in the United States have been reduced to pervasive stereotypic and racist caricatures imagined by non Asian polemicists and propagandists. The author argues that Asians in the west have always been classified as "Orientals", a term so grossly misused that the images of Asian Americans have become "the pollutant, the coolie, the deviant, the yellow peril, the model minority, and the gook" (p.8). The six images treat Asian Americans as the consummate outsider and alien body that serve no purpose except to threaten the Anglo-Saxon national family in American. More detail
China is a country of many secrets which the western nations and those nations that cherish liberty and freedoms sometimes wonder how they can be so brutal on the nations people. For so many years China has been on the human rights watch list as being very brutal to it’s people. In many issues local citizens would be thrown in prisons without trials for goiing against the leadership or even studying certain religion. China has grown to be a superpower amongst the nations and as it grows it shows they they are trying to change they way some citizens percieve the government and its’ policies. In 2011 a study was published where a university in China polled over 400 college students.
While the protest lacked an identical cause or leadership, most of the protesters were generally against the economic policies and authoritarian of the ruling of the Chinese Communist Party and expressing calls for democratic reforms in the structure of government. The PRC government then used betrayal as an excuse and in Beijing, and used military force to suppress the demonstrators. The resulting military crack down caused a number of innocent citizens dead or injured. The report on number of deaths and injured ranged from two hundred – three hundred (PRC government) to two thousand – three thousand (Chinese Red Cross). Following the violence, the government carried out mass arrests of demonstrators and suppressed their supporters and other protests around China.
The museum also exhibited some daily necessities that were currently used by people in the North Korea, which were really out of date. At that time I thought the South Korean people did this on purpose to embarrass the North Korean since the historical hostile attitude between them. However, after the death of Kim Jong-Il, several documentary videos that disclose the real situation in North Korea taken by foreigners were hot on the internet. Those videos are shocking and unbelievable. The most impressive one was the “Inside North Korea”(Ling, 2007), which was taken by a female American journalist Lisa Ling.
How Did Communism Affect Different Social Classes in China? Ever since I heard the word “communism”, I wanted to know its meaning. I keep hearing it from here and there but I never actually knew what does it mean until we started talking about china and its communist party. It interested me so much, specifically in China; because in my opinion, it is a controversial issue, because of the impacts on the society that it has left and the huge inequality it created in the society. How does a country apply communist as major policy when most of the world say that it is not even a reality, but a dream?
“In the Olympic Oath, I ask for only one thing: sporting loyalty.” This quote is taken from the man who is primarily responsible for the revival of the Olympics, Baron Pierre De Coubertin. At the age of 29 as a French educator, Pierre de Coubertin had a desire to promote better international understanding through love of athletics. 114 years later, his desire being accomplished, is now taking place in Vancouver, Canada— better known as 2010 Olympic Games. Everywhere you are right now, you either hear or see something about the Olympics or Olympic related. Our country is well represented with many talented Americans playing for us at the Olympic Games going on right now.
