Running head: The Trends in Business Communication The Trends in Business Communication COM 285 November 8, 2010 The Trends in Business Communication Good communication in business is crucial to the individual’s success and to the business’ success. Current trends in business communication include social-networking tools, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and video conferencing (Locker & Kienzler, 2008). Business communications play a vital role in a person’s day-to-day activities at work. Business communications help an individual manage his or her daily work activities by allowing the individual to keep in constant communication with employees and clients. The trends that have been seen in the current workplace include the use of e-mail, video conferences and PDA’s. The message types that resulted from these trends are e-mails, instant messages, and text messages. Success in the workplace is dependent on the individual’s ability to communicate with his or her employer and clients. Current Trends in Business Communication Current trends in business communication include social-networking tools, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and video conferencing. These trends are some of the most popular workplace devices that improve productivity (Locker & Kienzler, 2008). Social-networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter are becoming very popular networking sites for business. “These networking sites allow users to post a profile, blog, or useful links which allows workers to interact on a more personal level and allows them to share client information” (Locker & Kienzler, 2008, p. 14). Personal digital assistants (PDAs) allow employees to access their e-mail and websites, conduct word processing, and make telephone calls. Examples of PDAs are IPhones and Blackberry’s.
