My friend did not like Muslim people because he thought that all of them were here to make our lives worse by blowing up another building or plane. As the evidence that would support his hypothesis he would talk about the tragic 9/11 event in the US and grievous accidents in the other countries. He was always ready to hear bad news and they characterized the entire nation for him. Being from another country I felt embarrassed of him sometimes because I could not accept his idea of judging all the people by the acts of few. Unfortunately, none of the good stories reached his ear; they seemed to vanish in his mind. Last summer, in June, he had to train an international student at his work. His name was Abdullah, and he was from Turkey. To my friend’s surprise Abdullah was Muslim. So, he was very sure that he had to do his best to make the student quit his job. It’s very simple to fall victim to bandwagon fallacy, especially when people are young, and acting like others helps them to be a part of social network. One of the first examples that I remember from my own experience comes from my early teenage years. I was in the middle school, and my classmates decided to skip school that day. It was very nice weather outside: the sun was shining brightly and the snow was crispy and perfect for a snowball fight. Everybody was laughing and having fun and I felt like I wanted to be there with my classmates and not in the cold, obscure room with the math teacher. I wanted to be like everybody else I did not want to go to school and be in the classroom alone while my classmates were having so much fun! Of course, my parents had to go to school the next day and my grades were affected as well. That was an unpleasant day for many of us but we learned a lesson: sometimes it’s very easy to be like everybody else around you but it’s harder to make your own decision that can help you to reach higher goals in life without falling victim to bandwagon
