Although both sides of this controversy have merit, I believe that the title characters in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet are truly in love because they would die for each other, they went behind their parents’ backs and risked getting caught and they got married so they were committed to each other. The first reason why I think Romeo and Juliet are truly in love is because they would die for each other and in this case they actually did. “ Here’s to my love! Drinks. O true apothecary!
If this was the case, Juliet may not have felt so driven to take the potion and fake her death. Capulet’s forcing and uncaring parenting caused Juliet’s death. Above all, fate’s unavoidable reach is at most to blame for Juliet’s death. Fate’s first prediction was “one dead in the bottom of a tomb,” meaning when Juliet faking of her death. Fate also predicted “a pair of star-crossed lovers tak[ing] their live[s].” Out of everyone in the play, fate is at most to blame for Juliet’s death because of it’s unavoidable and destined to happen.
During the Elizabethan time they believed their life was planned out by god and their life was planned from the moment they were born. In the prologue Romeo and Juliet are described as “star-crossed lovers”. This metaphor states their love and relationship was predicted and written in the stars. In 1, 4,107 “Some consequence yet hanging in the stars” Romeo is expressing through this metaphor he has a “weird feeling” about what’s going to happen at the Capulet’s ball. Romeo also implies he feels something bad is going to happen which will ultimately end in his death.
This is further illustrated when Juliet is forced to marry Count Paris when Friar Lawrence presents her with an alternative, “I’ll give thee remedy”. Through The friar suggesting a substitute to Juliet’s fate, he doesn’t let her take responsibility for not telling her parents about her vows to Romeo hence he shows weak judgement and a deficit of thought. Friar Lawrence can be further held accountable for the suicide of Juliet, when at her discovery of Romeos suicide, he abandons her, “I dare no longer stay”. Through this action Friar Lawrence exhibits
Although Friar Lawrence’s intentions were good, his decisions and actions were the sole cause of Romeo and Juliet’s death. Do you agree? Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is the story of two young lovers who fall for one another only to realise that due to the feud their families’ share their love is destined for destruction. With all good intentions the minor character, Friar Lawrence was one of, but not the complete cause of their tragic end. There are three dominant aspects of their deaths, the feud between the two families, Friar Lawrence and most importantly, fate.
Romeo has no control over the bad event that is to occur, it is his fate. Romeo says that the misfortunate event will lead to his death. “But he that hath the steerage of my course direct my sail” (1012). A metaphor is being used in this passage because Shakespeare compares Romeo’s life to a course. The he referred to in the passage is fate.
Also in the play Tybalt was basically asking to be killed because he started with them for no reason. Before Romeo killed Tybalt Lord Capulet actually liked Romeo and Tybalt wanted him to not make him like him anymore and it worked. And now Juliet has to lie to her father about everything and how she wants to marry Paris but she really wants to marry Romeo. So Tybalt basically ruined everything that Juliet wanted. Yes, Romeo does help us see them as complex human beings because it puts together how Tybalt and everyone else in the story and how they are all connected and how they all are different in the
When true love happens people will go to the ends of the Earth to be together. Fate plays a major role in Romeo and Juliet in numerous ways. They would do anything for one another and throughout the play the reader is able to tell they are defiantly meant for one another. In our society today, it is hard to find a love like that of Romeo and Juliet but anything is possible with fate. Two star-crossed lovers go against their parent’s will since Juliet’s cousin is now dead and Romeo dreams that he should not go to the party, with that he ends up taking his own life.
The Heavens are included in religion and the fact that Friar Lawrence plays a major role in the play and become Juliet and Romeos closest Trustee. The references to Astrology used in the play, proves the fate involved with the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. In Elizabethan times stars had a way of predicting the future. “A pair of Star-crossed lover…” this is an example of the stars anticipating the tragic future. “Star-Crossed” in this case means the stars have created a path of fate that the couple must follow.
I am Fortune's fool!" (3.1.133) What does it mean? After Tybalt and Mercutio die, Benvolio tells Romeo that Prince Paris will probably doom him to death if he's caught. Romeo calls himself Fortune's fool. Romeo is discreetly referencing the prologue, where the audience learns that Romeo and Juliet are fated for misfortune.
