I had an answer, but I struggled terribly with putting it down on paper because I wanted this interview to “be perfect”. I was too worried about what I looked like or sounded like, so ultimately I had lost “my voice.” I went to my dad for more help. I had wasted a whole hour stressing over how to answer a few questions about myself. My dad told me something very important that day, he said, “The best way to impress someone is to be you”. After meditating on what he said to me I had at least something to put down.
Unit one also taught me to reevaluate how important certain priorities when it came to writing. I learned from the other unit one authors, Joseph M. Williams and James E. Porter, that when an essay is read by someone who is looking for grammatical error or plagiarism instead of content, they will often find the error and ignore the content. Although I do still know the importance of grammar and originality, this class and the grading style has let me put those constructs in the back seat until the editing process, instead of making them something I had to constantly worry about. I don’t believe that good writing revolves around grammar, but rather how well your words can convey a message to the intended audiences.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES - BA 2101, SECTION 011 FINAL ESSAY – 3/7/2013 INSTRUCTOR: Lindsay R. Teich Major in Success College students need more guidance in how to turn their talents, curiosity, and passions into successful careers. Most guidance offices and books on the subject will be inadequate for these purposes. The writing style is witty and engaging, and the examples are interesting and relevant. Repetition does occur in using the examples, but it's not too bad. While this book has some weaknesses in helping you select the direction you should go in, it is superb in helping you pursue your goals once they are set.
In fact, every time I just hope that my brain will come with something creative that I could start with. Writing assignments, sometimes it makes me feel as the world is conspiring against me; on one side of my brain are the negative thoughts and fear that keep me away from writing a great paper, and on the other side, instead of positive mind, I encounter with the thoughts like, “Do I ever going to present a really great essay?”, “Will I pass the class?” But, not everything had been unfavorable on my writing experience. Although of all these dissection, I have accomplished great things as well. For instance, I learned more about myself; I have learned things I needed to improve and change on my writing, and about my fears. Additionally, I have noticed tremendous progress on my writing skills, that is, I write much faster now, therefore, I get better papers and grades.
In other cases, like Carr said, it does make people lazy. Instead of searching for something and reading the entire context of something to learn it, people will just look up the answer. Yes, knowing the answer is good, but knowing how to get the answer or how to get to it is almost as important. In Dewey's essay, his topic is, "Is school making us smart?". In my opinion, school itself doesn't make us smart, but it does give you the opportunity to become more knowledgable.
In conclusion, not graduating from high school is a fatal mistake. Getting a high school diploma has many advantages for our future. In high school we are taught the basics of organization and logical thinking. These qualifications are crucial for when we apply on jobs. Nowadays the number of job applicants are rocketing, and those without a high school diploma could barely survive the competition.
I had to disregard a lot of information that was not entirely relevant to my research question. Also at times the content was vague, and the ideas did not always follow logically. I used Study Support to develop my writing skills, but wished I had approached them for help at an earlier stage, as this would have saved me a considerable amount of stress. To conclude, the dissertation assignment has improved my confidence in my ability, through producing a lengthy piece of work. I feel it has effectively concluded the academic phase, and I am excited and motivated by the prospect of getting a job in the fashion
High School is going to be a pain no matter who your are, but for different reason; I’m frightened because of the decision I have to make to choose the perfect class, learning, and taking notes. Those are my ultimate weaknesses. I cannot decide what classes to do, which will make it harder to learn, which will require notes. One problem, I am horrible at note taking. In High School you need to think about what you might do as an adult, and there are many options with many classes.
We sat down and worked out a solution we ordered a new computer, we only hope this helps us get more college work done and in a timely manner leaving us with less stress. Loosing days at work to go to school has put a huge struggle on me even though I know school is important. But having less money come in is a huge stressor that I have not found a way to deal with except telling myself that after I get an education I will get a better job. After sitting down and thinking very hard about this I have developed my action plan. One big thing that seems to help people deal with stress is going to the gym.
I think it will be better for me so that I won’t get confused by switching to a different learning style. This will be a better feel for the differences between the other styles of learning. Sometimes when I have to learn with other styles it’s a huge challenge for me because I have to focus on it so much to where I always end up saying “screw this, I’m done” and put it aside until the last minute then I realize that the assignment is due the next day and I still end up putting it aside. One of my big weaknesses that I run into a lot tends to be the most used learning style with most colleges. That weakness of mine is reading.
