Though a war over government preferences is arguably a farfetched reason to wage war, it was apparent that these ideologies had a huge influence on lifestyle. One of the two possible verdicts that derive from the question, “Who was to blame for The Cold War?” is that the
In 1950 the McCarran Internal Security Act passed and required communist organizations to publish their records, and register with the government. When the Soviets successfully detonated a nuclear weapon in 1949, it took America by surprise. The speed at which Soviet technology was advancing drew suspicion to a conspiracy that American atomic secrets were handed over to the Soviets. These fears were found to be true in 1950 and masterminded by members of the Communist Party Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. On April 5, 1951 the Rosenberg’s were found guilty and sentenced to death.
They were hated by much of Europe’s Christian population. There were anti-Jewish pogroms and the Jewish community was persecuted. However, from around 1790 to 1890 the Jews were slowly freed from the ghettos and given much more freedom. They gradually became a part of society again. Unfortunately, as they grew wealthier and successful anti-Semitism also became more apparent as less successful people became jealous of them.
One of the major causes of tension was the Berlin blockade which caused an accelerated involvement of the US in Europe. The US disagreed with many of the SU’s political ideologies and decisions like its control over Poland. Also, Britain sided with the US and backed Iran in its struggle to be independent of the SU. There were several other problems concerning the Soviet Union’s pursuit of power; namely its conquests in Turkey, Greece and Korea. These heightened the US’s fear of communism and continued to radically change its foreign policy to deal with this threat.
Arab Muslim Civilization Stereotypes This world is filled with a variety of cultures, beliefs, and religions; everyone has differing views on the morality of life. Unfortunately people often do not respect and embrace the differences they have with others. This lack of acceptance has led to discrimination, stereotyping, and even war. After many incidents that affected the world; Arabs started being criticized by many people. People around the world are and have been for many years stereotyping 1/5 of the world’s population.
When used, the Three Strikes law treats all crimes the exact same way, which makes the law unjust. For example, someone who raped and murdered a twelve year old girl would receive the same exact punishment as someone who was caught with marijuana. Many people want to put a stop to situations like this, but every day these trials are taking places. The media then tries to persuade the citizens into believing the law is effective by broadcasting different trials that put the person in prison. But, they do not tell the public that they are being put in prison for stealing “videos or pizza” (Messerli).
An atomic bomb is a powerful explosive weapon that derives its force from the sudden release of energy in a nuclear reaction called fission, or splitting, of the nuclei of such heavy elements as plutonium and uranium. (Yanak, Cornelison) The Manhattan project was named after the Manhattan Engineer District in New York were most early research was done. (Rodreyer, Smith) The Manhattan project began with the idea brought up by foreign and other advanced physicists in 1938. The idea sprung up due to the fear of Hitler, a powerful enemy of the time, who was believed to be building a bomb similar to that like the Manhattan projects. (Yanak, Cornelison) Germany even had a two-year head start on developing nuclear energy.
In his article, “Cold War,” David Snead talks about the events that took place during the time of the Cold War. He goes into more detail about the technological advancements at the time and how people reacted towards them. Snead mentions that there was a sense of paranoia that was the result of dangers such as missiles and nuclear war - both important technological developments - that posed a risk to people’s lives. The fear that George and Lydia Hadley felt from the realistic appearance of the Veldt’s visuals, was much like the fear that people during the Cold War felt from missiles and nuclear war. They are similar in the sense that in both scenarios, technology was seen as a weapon of destruction, which makes it evident that there was fear and
How far do you agree with the view that the origins of the Cold War in 1945 and 1946, owed much to the ideological differences and little to do with personalities and conflicting national interests? In 1945 and 1946, Europe was in a state of flux and instability. It had undergone a long period of upheaval following the two major conflicts in the early part of the twentieth century. All the major powers were struggling to find a way forward that not only protected their national interests but ensured that another war could be avoided. With such different ideologies and conflicting national interests, and the different personalities of the Big Three, mistrust and suspicion would naturally arise.
This was shown by Kaiser Wilhelm in an interview with the Daily Telegraph in 1908: “You English are like mad bulls: you see red everywhere! What on earth has come over you, that you should heap on such suspicion?” Despite Kaiser Wilhelm denying there was competition between them, both countries, paranoid the other would attack, sought to seek alliances with neighbouring countries. These alliances were a crucial factor to all aspects of the war. If Germany hadn’t been so power hungry, the war may not have been the same war, we know of today. Germany seem to have believed that war was best way to solve conflicts between nations.
