If she is a perfect person, she will not say such words that hurt her parents. Therefore, people can tell that Hazel is not too perfect in the story and if people continue to read some parts of the story, they will find more examples that show Hazel is not a perfect person. Another review on Amazon says that people want to stop reading at the end of chapter one because they feel bored with the story. I believe after chapter one the story has some interesting occurrences even though I
The first chapter was told by FiFi, the youngest sister. In the beginning she was mad about the book Yolanda had wrote. She even was on the way to the Grocery store, when she seen pictures of Yolanda posted all over the place, so she did a U-turn and drove home to give Yolanda a call. When she called Yolanda she did not answer. Which was most likely a good thing.
This looked like revenge to me against what I had said before when I was sixteen. My mother wouldn’t listen to what I had to say not even if the topic was forgiveness. I was about to graduate from high school and it seemed like she wasn’t interested, not to mention she didn’t attend the ceremony. Furthermore, I was in my thirty’s teaching English literature at Boston, Massachusetts. My life was busy, but I would always think of my mother.
She then stopped and slid off a yellow hardcover book and generously handed it to me "Thought I had seen it come in." I gave her back the book and she began to ring me up as I dug out my library card that I got once when I brought my brother for something. She handed me back the card and the book and told me the due date and I headed back home to get started reading. When I got home I got in bed and figured I had at least two hours to kill watching a little bit of TV or I could just start this book I just got. I got ready for bed, laid back down, and grabbed the book flipped through the bulk of the book and back to the beginning of the first chapter and began the book that would change my view on reading.
She seemed illiterate. However, later she realizes her ignorance was really a gift: she finds if she had read the books at an earlier age, she couldn’t have understood 90 percent of their content, and to reread them later would be unlikely. Fortunately, she realizes she can now read, and understand more. In this essay, Schine wants to show us that reading is life-long process. Her life experience is a good example that it is never too late to start reading.
I was surprised at how aggravated I was when I was reading because Hal ad Claire didn’t believe her. Catherine kept this big secret from everyone and when she finally decides to open up and tell them they don’t believe her. I can relate to her and I can understand why she would be so hurt and storm off. I have personally been in many situations like this because all my life people have underestimated me. At one point in time in my life one of my teachers told me that I would never graduate or attend college and that I would most likely be knocked up before my junior year.
That then changed my whole perspective towards everything, so I decided to read the book. When I started reading “The Gun” it caught my attention from the first couple of pages. I started reading it supplementary each day. “The Gun” was the most amazing book I ever read. I could not keep my eyes that book the suspense was killing me.
It is clear that John does not like what the church has become which is why he refuses to baptize his third son. He does not want his son to be apart of a hypocritical church system. John is also stubborn. Hale tells him that he should immediately baptize his son and start going to church more often to get people to stop accusing his wife of witchcraft, but he is hesitant to do so and does not want
And so is the hurt we cause others unknowingly” (Walker 180). For many people an absence of belief is an overwhelming thing. This could relate to religion or a sense that someone does not believe in what they say or what they do. By not having faith in a person to listen and believe what they are saying you may unknowingly hurt them in ways that you will never know and will never fully understand. “She say, Celie, tell the truth, have you ever found God in church?
“She said that my life is being subsumed by yours and that it’s as though I’ve joined some sort of eco-cult and you are the cult leader” (Beaven-75). When Colin contacted his family, he received a similar reaction. His plan was “instead of two three-day trips at Thanksgiving and Christmas” they would “take one weeklong trip for one holiday and stay home and relax for the other” (Beaven-82). His mother did not understand because “the train will run whether you are on it or not” (Beaven-82) and that his sister would be devastated that they would be missing his baby shower. I can only imagine what my family would do if I said something to them like Colin and Michelle did to theirs.
