By doing activities that the kids would enjoy rather than doing activities they don’t like and wouldn’t participate in. In order to slow down obesity in youths in the United States, PE should be mandatory in all schools. If the schools PE programs made the kids stay active they could help overweight kids or kids that want to be in shape lose some weight. Young people are in worse physical shape than earlier generations, according to the U.S. surgeon, only about one half of U.S. children get regular exercise and one fourth does not get any exercise at all. As a result obesity has risen substantially since the 1980’s.
(www.cnpp.usda.gov) Also, two out of three school children eat what the National School Lunch Programs (NSLP) provides. The school lunches consist of frozen veggies, non-fresh fruit and processed meats. All processed foods are full of chemicals. Parents need to do something about the lunch that is being provided to our children. We need to stand up for them and get the schools to provide healthy foods.
It explains that we as parents not only have to fight against the media advertising the junk food commercials, but now we must fight against the public school system serving the poor choices in the school lunches. The author, Dr. Joseph Esposito is founder and developer of AlignLife Netraceauticals. The audience will most likely be parents concerned with their child’s health and well being. Overall, I like and agree with the information in the article. Galenet.galegroup.com “Health and Fitness Across the Curriculum.” Paperclip Communications (2005).
We have a crisis on our hands with childhood obesity on the rise. Two main causes for the fattening of our children are junk food and sugary sodas. Junk food and soda often take the place of healthy foods in our kids’ diets, something that most school systems should be ashamed of. School lunches are a cause of childhood obesity in America, at least in U-46 schools. In order to put an end to childhood obesity, the schools needs to prepare a healthy yet balanced diet for all kids, by serving them with good food that is full of nutrition.
(Moffitt, 1995). Being a Dietetics student, I am extremely aware of the importance of nutritious school meal programs because children spend most of their habit-forming years in school. Students need to develop positive breakfast and lunch choices in order to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle in the future. As I briefly stated before, there have been studies done to compare the students who participate in school breakfast and lunch programs with the students who choose not to. The findings indicated that a surprising number of students do not participate in the programs altogether.
American Intercontinental University Unit 4 Individual Project Trishal Gross Abstract Kids go to school for an education, part of that education includes learning about nutrition and how important it effects everyday life. When kids have temptations of junk food within the school halls they walk in, how are they not going to be tempted to eat the goodies inside these snack and soda vending machines? The removal of these machines and replacement of them with healthy drinks and snacks, help promote healthy lifestyles that the schools are trying to promote, gives schools extra funding for other activities and sports, and give kids healthier alternatives when it comes to choosing a snack to eat. When we send kids off to school, we assume that our children will get taught an education, get some physical activity, and most of all eat a nutritious lunch that day .Sometimes lunch is the only meal a child gets all day so that lunch is very important, it needs to have all the right nutritional values that growing school age children need. To continue the promotion of the value of nutrition through education, eating right, and exercise, the removal of snack and soda vending machines should be removed.

Lunch is an important meal of the day and many children eat it at school. It helps our bodies and brains grow and develop into the way that they are supposed to by boosting our metabolism and giving us energy for the rest of the day. But it's probably one of the biggest problems in schools throughout America. We are told to eat healthy and good but we cannot always do that with the choices we have at the school. Students are being fed unhealthy lunches at school cafeterias simply because it is cheaper to produce unhealthy processed foods so alternatives and healthier food go away.
The unit will also provide useful underpinning knowledge for the study of food hygiene and of practical culinary skills. You will be introduced to the concept of nutritional health through exploring nutritional definitions and different ways of describing diet and food intake. The characteristics of macronutrients and micronutrients in terms of their chemical composition and behavior in cooking, digestion and in human metabolism will be explored, and related to the nutritional requirements for different individuals. The effects of non-food substances that may be ingested and that influence health will also be considered. The importance of nutrition for different population groups will be investigated, and related to risks to health as well as to socio-economic factors that influence food intakes.
