Voter Id laws are put into place so to insure registered voters are voting. Now days at most places you have to show your id to use your credit card, so I would think everyone would have one. Critics of voter id laws are saying it cost money for low income peonnie1ple to obtain proper Id, due to their lack of ability to get transportation, or the cost of the identification. In my opinion that’s a joke; if you can’t get to the id office; how would you get to the polls? I do wonder how a person can’t be responsible enough to get a free Id but expect to vote on things that affect everyone. Sure people argue that you need to have documentation like a birth certificate in order to obtain an Id, which cost extra money. One valid argument would be that your county does not have a place to obtain an Id or you can’t manage get to it during business hours due to work (Cohen, A. 2012). You would need this item to get a job also. In my opinion Id laws are a great tool that ensures a fair opportunity for people to vote. If a person can’t go the extra mile to get the required documentation then they should be turned away. If everyone is notified of the law or any changes thereafter, they should be held accountable. Some of the same people complaining about getting an Id are the ones who manage to pay an attorney to file a lawsuit. A big majority of Americans favor voter ID requirements (Underhill, W. 2011). I have never had any problems voting, probably because I don’t make excuses and I plan ahead. I know some people that waited in lines for hours, I have been lucky and usually walk right in.
