These topical matters which Yolen has used are the holocaust, and the fairy-tale sleeping beauty or less commonly known as briar rose. Both these subject matters are well known in society and have had huge impacts on history. Being such well known subject matters instantly engages the audience as they are able to apply their knowledge and to make cross-links between the two subject matters. Intertextuality of any text will be intriguing and engaging as the audience is able to compare and to know the basic outline of what is to come, this could be considered dramatic irony. The symbolism of the holocaust is engaging as fairy-tales are always considered to have a happy ending but using such a dark topical matter which seems to have no happy outcomes is able to surprise the audience and to keep them reading as the audience is waiting to see the “Happily ever after” (pg.
On page 18, Gene admitted his envy towards Phineas. He thought, “It was hypnotism. I was beginning to see that Phineas could get away with anything. I couldn’t help envying him…” Gene was an introvert, while Phineas was an extrovert. His jealously of Finny’s trait increased throughout the novel because Finny continued to smooth-talk to get out of trouble.
Now with some minor background information on Abundio from the beginning of the novel to the end he has changed from the trustworthy good man the reader thought he was to the potential man that could have killed his father Pedro Paramo. When Juan first enters Comala he meets Abundio, Juan depends on him for information on his father, and where he might find him. As a reader of this novel looking back onto the story, why doesn’t Abundio come out with the truth about the situation that happened between him and his father? Some explanations I
Andrew Gaudioso has to write a postcard every week to a family because he killed their son. The man killed a 2 tour veteran in the war of Iraq named Thomas Towers who was a United States soldier. I don’t find the punishment to be enough because he killed a man that was risking his life for our country. Also, I say the punishment isn’t enough because every week he reminds the family of what he has done and also there is no certainty that he is meaning what he is writing. For example the father doesn’t believe that what he is writing is true.
Bohemian Rhapsody Jessica ODonnell Western Governors University Bohemian Rhapsody Although it is a song that I have heard many times in the past, while initially listening to the musical works “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen for this assignment I was surprised by the lyrical story being told. My initial impression of the song being played was the story being portrayed of a young man who had committed a murder who was now being punished for his sins. Although this man had committed the crime it was as though he had already given up on life before the event had occurred. This is the aspect of the song that may have intrigued me the most. The song gives the impression that the “poor boy” in which the story is being told about was considering
Essay four: Character A Good Man is Hard To Find Mary Flannery O’Conner’s’ short story, “A Good Man is Hard To find”, shows very distinct characters throughout their journey they take on. Bailey is a uptight character and O’Conner writes his character right on target. The grandmother character adds some twist and turns to the adventures they seek. O’Conner creates a sick and evil character in “The Misfit”. All three of the characters combine show unique and detailed personalities which make the story so easily read and at times amusing despite the dreary end.
Amir felt the reason Baba was always distant and seemed cut off, was because he was torn inside after the death of his beloved wife, which Amir had killed at delivery. “It may be unfair, but what happens in a few days, sometimes even a single day, can change the course of a whole lifetime...” This evidence shows how the one event at twelve years old has molded his entire life. “I became what I am today at the age of twelve.” At twelve years old Amir witnessed the rape of his childhood friend and brother Hassan. This example shows that Amir felt his entire life was shaped by the memory of the rape that happened at twelve years old. Amir lived the rest of his life trying to deal with the guilt and hide from the memory of that horrific
The way Kendrick raps makes the audience seem as if he is we are listening to his story. But with the information we know about him, his friend was the one who go shot. Therefor in the line, “You ran outside when you heard my brother cry for help Held him like a newborn baby and made him feel Like everything was alright” we can declare that the speaker is not Kendrick but the victim’s brother. Already Kendrick opens up a song in a way that hasn’t been seen before. Kendrick tells the tale of his friend’s brother in his own eyes.
Johnny Hernandez Mrs. James 2 February 2015 Juveniles as Adults I believe that juveniles should be tried as adults because they are old enough to know what they are doing, the juvenile system fails, and teen’s parents/childhood. The reason I think this is because I read a story about a kid named Greg Ousley who murdered his parents because he felt like he wasn’t loved enough, he felt like all he did was embarrassed his parents. One day after school he was depressed, his dad didn’t seem to care as much nor did his mother. So he said, “He has to kill them”, so later that night he shots his parents with a 12-guage shotgun in the head. Then tries to play it off as if someone came to his house, murdered his parents.
The Two Sides of Human’s Character Every story goes with a main plot and it talks about two kinds of characters: protagonists and antagonists. The protagonist is a hero, who usually does good things to people and fights against the antagonist, who causes bad things to happen to everybody. Case and Wiltshire are two examples of these characters from Robert Louis Stevenson’s “The Beach of Falesá.” Wiltshire is the protagonist and Case is the antagonist. They are both traders who want to benefit from using goods like copra, but there are many differences in the way they get to their purpose. By the end of the story, Stevenson clearly contrasts the two men in their advantages, behaviors and relationships.
