Wal-Mart’s main defense is all the jobs it creates for American citizens. While Wal-Mart does create many jobs it destroys more than it creates. According to the book, How corporation’s hurt us all, By crushing local businesses, this giant eliminates three decent jobs for every two low-paid Wal-Mart jobs it creates (Dan Butts 167). So basically every time a Wal-Mart comes to a small town, a lot of the employees have to join the superstore and work for less or lose their job all together. Another reason people like to defend Wal-Mart is because they have better prices than most everyone else which is easier on peoples wallets.

Water bottles are filling up our landfills: Two million tons of plastic water bottles a year ultimately end up in them.” These facts are not considering the products used to seal, package, and contain the bottles which may include card board. All this manufacturing can ultimately affect the climate and environment. She also talks about how the people that buy the bottled water rarely recycle them she says “fewer than 15 percent of PET bottles are recycled”. While water bottles are able to be recycled it has been found that the majority are disposed of by trash or being left behind somewhere.
In 2007, Hope for Haiti foundation had built twelve water filtration plants in schools, orphanages, communities, and clinics. These were solar powered, ultraviolet systems that could provide over 500 gallons of drinking water a day. These systems were damaged during the earthquake. This causes severe damage to the environment as unconsumed food is responsible for 1.3 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions. And economically, food that is wasted costs $750 billion every year which is equal to Switzerland’s GDP. Every day, people, especially in the developed countries, waste almost as much food as the entire food production of sub-Saharan Africa.
