Acceptance, determination, and support are traits that carry great importance. Kevin has always showed these in all he does. Kevin Paul McElroy has had a great impact on my life. Kevin has had a tough life, but has not allowed that to become him. He has always been motivating and supportive. Kevin has made me feel as though I am important and loved as well as help me overcome my fears. Although Kevin has had a tough life, he has not allowed that to become him. Kevin is a senior at Brookwood High School. He was born at the Gwinnett Medical Hospital eighteen years ago. His father left when he was still a child. He was abused and his mother did nothing to stop it. He was forced to grow up very quickly in order to take care of his new younger brother from his mother’s new husband. The new father abused Kevin and his two brothers and was constantly drunk. Kevin was in and out of foster care about three different times. Although he has never had any support from his family, he has always excelled in his schooling. Now, in his later year as a high school student, he is taking almost all AP classes and has earned straight, natural A’s. He goes to Synagogue and is awaiting the decision for whether or not he will be attending UGA this fall, as well as having been in a stable relationship for the last two and a half years, and is now seeking employment as well as a car. He is doing all of this with little, or no help from his family members. Most children that are abused their whole lives would become abusive themselves, drop out of school, or join a gang of some sort. Kevin has gone against that and is making a future for himself. He aspires to become a teacher and a father someday. He is truly inspirational. He has always been motivating and supportive. When someone is having problems in his or her life, Kevin always tries to help, whether it is financially, or emotionally.
