AP European History DBQ 2008 Form B On November 24, 1793, the National Convention replaced the Gregorian calendar with a new revolutionary calendar. In response to the new calendar, in the period 1789 to 1806, several different reactions evolved. Based on the documents provided, when looked at upon an intellectual basis, the calendar seemed perfect; where some found the new calendar to work well, others proclaimed it inconvenience; and through overthrowing Christianity in the calendar and everyday life, problems began to arise. The documents can be divided into three main groups. The first group of documents shows the intellectual thought behind the creation of the revolutionary calendar and the reasons for its adoption.
Finally, in 1783 the Treaty of Paris was signed by both the British Empire and America, ending the American Revolution. Generally speaking, the three revolutions: American, French, and Haitian had similar events. The American, French, and Haitian Revolutions were heavily influenced by the Enlightenment ideals: liberty and equality. John Locke, an English philosopher, influenced the Founding Fathers of the American Revolution. He declared how all men are born with inalienable rights: life, liberty, and property.

The patriots had various reasons for seeking independence in the fateful years of 1775-1783. These reasons did not materialize instantly but can be traced back to decades earlier. Two revolutionary impulses existed: independence from Britain’s tyrannous rule and the desire to democratize a failing American society and government. Before the French and Indian War, the objective of the British was to regulate trade and in general influence the colonial government. However, Britain achieved these aims in a limited way and did not over-manage the colonies.
The Port of New Orleans at the bottom of the Mississippi River made America wish to a buy only the Port of New Orleans for seven million dollars from the French because it would greatly benefit the United States financially by being able to trade with Asia easily. France did not accept this offer, but offered to sell much more land than the United States wanted for a very small price which still included the Port of New Orleans which is why Jefferson decided to sign a treaty in order to purchase the territory. If the Mississippi River was nonexistent, then there would not have been any Port of New Orleans so Jefferson would have declined France’s offer. The reason Napoleon ever wanted to sell the Louisiana Territory in

Some in favour of the UK's uncodified system would argue that the fact the constitution is not entrenched creates a much more flexible and adaptable constitution, which means it can evolve due to circumstances when they crop up. A prime example of this was in May 2010 in the election where there was no majority vote. Due to the economic crisis at the time it would have been horrific had there been a 'hung' parliament so thanks to the flexibility of the UK's constitution a draft procedure was made in case of such emergencies. As the constitution was not entrenched this was done quickly and easily which was required because of the seriousness of the situation. This showed the UK constitution to be very beneficial, and furthermore the Queen and the Royal Prerogative did not have to be consulted, which would have been different in a codified system and made the process much slower than in an uncodified constitution.
These revolutions followed the American and French Revolutions, which had profound effects on the Spanish, Portuguese and French colonies in the Americans.
