Even if a teen has never considered doing drugs they might do it just to fit in with their friends. Music and television may also encourage teens to do drugs today. Many songs and shows give the impression that drugs are fun and considered cool. Other teens do drugs to relive stress. Teens who are depressed are more susceptible to using drugs.
To begin with, media is always trying to make these celebrities more and more famous by portraying their images as they are super hero and what they are doing is right. This is the main reason, today many youngsters following these celebrities blindly. Celebrities often shown as smoking and drinking excessively on screen, this can be very harmful to the teens that they pick up on these behaviors and think it is normal to smoke and drink like their favorite celebrity. What is more, almost every other day, a celebrity is in trouble with law in term of drug abuse and addiction. Moreover, many celebrities are brand ambassadors of wine and liquor products, where they promote these products and their admirers starts boozing as their role model is promoting it.
The media, in the form of tv and movies, doesn't represent the world as a whole. It often focuses on a single sector that influences what is to be accepted. Some are influenced so strongly that they will do anything to live up to the expectations, from developing eating disorders to multiple plastic surgeries. I've witnessed the influence music videos have on teens. I've heard the young boys talk about the female artists and how hot they are and what they'd like to do to them.
“He said that the ‘hard-core’ pornography that he was exposed to could take responsibility for the murders. However, it is believed that he may have been in denial and refused to admit to family issues to protect them (Psychology of Psychopaths)”. No matter if the case was the hard-core pornography or his family, these are both components found within society that nurtured him into what he was later on in his life. Having troubled parents will lead to improper behavior and conduct, also being shown explicit videos such as porn at such a young age does affect the child's actions. In fact, whether it was the pornography or his family he would’ve been socialized by the same person and that would be his grandfather, an abusive racist who showcased the pornography to Ted at his developing years as a child.
Almost everyone has sat through an episode of jackass and laughed hysterically as the crew hurt themselves and got into mischief in order to please the audience. The fact that shows such as these have gained so much popularity has led kids to try and attempt the same stunts for recognition from friends or even YouTube popularity. They believe it is acceptable to engage in behaviors such as these because they are seeing it on television daily. This mentality has led to a decrease in morality and an increase in senseless injury. While MTV has not just led to a change in socially acceptable behavior, it has also changed the way in which women, particularly teens portray themselves.
Most of children interest at the television set because it provides the voice and colorful video to attract their attention. Base on the cognitive development published by Jean Piaget, human experience the world by their senses in sensorimotor stage (between 0-2 years old). That’s why children are attracted by the TV easily. An average American child will see 200,000 violent acts and 16,000 murders on TV by age 18. Children cannot justify the difference between reality and fantasy .The variety of violent and sexual programs makes them more vulnerable to learn from and adopting as reality.
Since before my time, media has had a huge impact on American culture. Without people even realizing it, because people are so caught up in the changes they are blinded, by them. There are a lot of people that wouldn’t even considering the good in media, they just rather look at all the bad; and would dare use any source of media. Media can easily play the good role as well as the bad role. It just depends what side best fits you.
Police state is also used by a repressive government to confine freedom of expression. Repressive institutions are organizations in which freedom of expression is prohibited. They are often supported and enforced by society and its institutions and they are often used to regulate or control a group of people or an individual. Schools, families, hospitals are all examples of institutions, and when used in a doctrinaire way, they can be repressive institutions. For instance a family bounded by fundamentalist values or a school regulated by strict rules can conflict with individual freedom.
Even though cigarettes are not a drug, they are still a stimulant to release stress. Not only are celebrities doing drugs, they also drink alcohol and seem to always have a place to go to. Celebrities are known for always partying and going to bars. They see and know they can get drugs, so why not? Some often feel that they are being peer pressured to do drugs so they fit in.
Our generation in America now has portrayed sexuality everywhere in media. We can’t go a day without seeing some sort of sex related event. From tv commercials to songs, to magazines. Sometime I can’t help but feel like it has more negative consequences than positive consequences. But despite the bad outcome out weighing the good outcome, I still think that there are some positive forces out there mixed in our media about sexuality.
