Diet The main food that Koalas eat is eucalyptus leaves. Eucalyptus leaves are very fibrous and low in nutrition. Eucalyptus leaves contain a lot of water so koalas don’t have to drink. The koala’s metabolism rate is also regulated in a way to complement the heat insulation of the fur. The metabolism of the koala is quite slow it is only 74% of other animals’ metabolism rate.
Howler Monkey I want to introduce you to the howler monkeys. Howler monkeys don’t need a loud speaker to talk. These boisterous primates eat leaves from the canopy of the forest along with fruits, nuts, and flowers. They live in tropical central and South America and also they live in small groups of about 12 individuals. They have a short snout, and wide-set, round nostrils and grow to be about 2 feet in length, not including their 30-inch tail.
Mbuti are the only true Pygmy tribes. The population of Mbuti range approximated 30,000 to 40,000 in Central Africa. Mbuti Are Hunters and gatherers, they (Mbuti) hunt animals and gather wild fruit. Mbuti are no more than four feet six inches tall. Western Scientists have speculated on why Mbuti are short.
The Mbuti or BaMbuti are hunter-gathers that live primarily in the rain forests of Africa. The Ituri jungle is located in the Northeast portion of the country formerly known as Zaire and has returned back to its previous name, the Congo. The Mbuti are true foragers that view the forest as almost a deity. This forest deity provides all of their sustenance. They depend on the environment of the rain forest for almost all their livelihood.
[20]Seven plant families are only found here, the highest number of any biodiversity hotspot in the world. [17]The plant family didiereaceae, composed of four genera and 11 species, is limited to the spiny forests of southwestern Madagascar. Four-fifths of the world's pachypodium species are endemic to the island. Three-fourths of Madagascar's 960 orchid species are found here alone, as are six of the world's eightbaobab species. The island is also home to around 170 palm species, three times as many as are found on mainland Africa; 165 of these are endemic.
But where do all of these attributes come into play? Gorillas primarily inhabit in a tropical forest environment. Locations range from the tropical forests of Cameroon, Nigeria, and the Central African Republic to Gabon, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eastern Zaire, Rwanda, and Uganda. These tropical forests typically have little variance in temperature, around 73.4°F, the length of daylight lasts about 12 hours, and precipitation is usually distributed evenly throughout the year. Convenient enough, these forests are also abundant in their main food source.
The Mbuti of Northeast Zaire Efrem Terrell ANT 101 Prof. Robert Moon Nov 20, 2011 The Mbuti of Northeast Zaire The Mbuti are Bantu-speaking hunter-gatherers living in the southern part of the Ituri Forest of the northeast part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (former Zaire). While their traditional way of life is often described as centering on hunting and gathering of wild food resources, the Mbuti rely for a large part of their subsistence on cultivated foods acquired in exchange from village-living horticulturalists. Most cultivated foods are acquired by Mbuti women, who in return provide forest products for the villagers or work in the villagers’ gardens. This type of reciprocal relationship dates back hundreds and possibly thousands of years, and occurs among all Pygmies in Africa except for those who have recently settled in villages and begun to grow their own food (Cultural Survival). The Mbuti are considered to be a foraging group of people or better known as hunters-gatherers because they depends primarily on wild food for subsistence.
That is 86,400 football fields of rainforest per day, or around 30 million football fields of rainforest each year. • Rainforests are critical in maintaining the Earth's limited supply of drinking and fres
Deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest The Amazon rainforest is the largest tropical rainforest in the world. It’s size is unmatched by other rainforests, because it covers over forty percent of South America, and is present in nine different countries. The total area of the Amazon consists of 1.7 billion acres, with 1.4 billion acres of dense forests. It is such a vast ecosystem, providing a home to one-fifth of the worlds plants and birds, as well as one-tenth of the world’s mammals. It is easy to see why this rainforest is so marveled upon.
Mbuti Culture In the Congo, of Africa, lives a tribe known as the Mbuti. They are pygmies (dwarf like people) living in a luscious rain forest known as the Ituri. The Ituri Forest existed prior to the last ice age. The universe of the rainforest is one of purged sunlight below a lofty, expansive cloak of trees, where abysmal peace exists with the punctuating cries of the numerous birds and animals that share the forest with the Mbuti. A consistent, peacefully affable warmth, ample rainfall, damp air, and rich earth nurture the abundance of vegetation that grows.
