The Legend of Bagger Vance Response The Legend of Bagger Vance was definitely what I had expected it to be. I expected a really boring story about golfing and cheesy way it connected to life somehow. However I discovered that this big was more than I had ever thought. In my opinion it was amazing book that put golf as well as God in a very multi dimensional manner. Though I did like the story I do not believe I could ever possibly enjoy golf as much as I did the book. It is simply a sport that could possibly bore me to death. Overall I think it was a great book and would definitely read it again in my spare time. What I enjoyed most about the book is the way the author put in many different lessons god tried to teach through historical text. For example: Love your neighbor as thy self is seen as, ”Love your opponents.…show more content…
I cannot answer. Why did he take the form as a servant, a caddie? I can’t answer that either.” ( Pages 228-229) I understand that golf course was where the original Great War took place and that the game of golf was a representation of the battle and I saw that was necessary for the book. What I didn’t understand was why the author chose golf of all sports to connect to God and why was God put into the position he was put into. Shouldn’t he always be the one who should be served not serving? And why did Vance choose Junah, Heady, and Michael? I personally saw nothing that was truly special or deserving of something from God. I tried really hard to answer these questions myself; however, I only came to one conclusion. Perhaps god took the position a caddie and humbled himself was another motif/lesson placed in by the author. It is quite easy to find lessons of humbleness in the bible.
