Unit 7 Task 1 Explain the legal status and principles of the relevant early year framework/s and how national and local guidance materials are used in settings Early Years Foundation Stage(EYFS) Framework is mandatory for all early years Ofsted registered settings in Great Britain that are attended by young children, from birth to the end of academic year in which a child has his/her fifth birthday. In September 2008 England has introduced a National curriculum for children from 0-5 who attend, are cared and educated outside their homes. As England is form from four nations, which have different approaches in planning and providing early ears education, and are in different stages of working their frameworks, they worked their own frameworks.…show more content…
The EYFS framework sets out the legal requirements relating to the early learning goals, the educational programmes, and the assessment arrangement (in section 2) and the legal requirements relating to welfare- safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare, suitable people, suitable premises,, environment and equipment, organization and documentation(section 3). The early learning goals describe what a child should be able to do at the end of academic year, “establish expectation” that most children are expected to reach when a child reaches his/hers five. It provides a basis for planning throughout the EYFS. The educational programmes describe the support and teaching that the child requires to help him/her to achieve those learning goals. Some children will have exceeded these goals, but it depends on their individual needs. The curriculum is not statutory and therefore is not dictated from the Government. Local authorities and settings are responsible for what is taught, taking into account national guidelines and advice. According to the Curriculum for Excellence, the goals of children and young people from 3 to 18 are: • Become successful learners • Confident individuals • Responsible citizens • Effective contribution to society and at work There are eight areas of development in the Educational programme: • Health and well-being • Languages • Mathematics • Sciences • Religion and Moral
