Like the genocides of the past century, it will be notorious principally for its cost in human life" (Perl 25). The people in Darfur aren't that different from people like us. We have the same body functions/needs, they have faith in a higher diety like we do, etc. But most importantly, something that people seem to forget, they're people just like everyone else in the world. The Darfurians, targeted and attacked by their own neglectful government, entire villages burned and obliterated, men savagely murdered, women visciously raped, and children, unmercifully and sadly, meeting their forced ends as well.

Brian Bauersfeld Book Review of: The Massacre at El Mozote The Massacre at El Mozote is a brilliant piece of writing that illustrates mankind’s brutal way of life, and the recklessness of Latin American countries, while questioning the United States’ lack of intervention during the end of the Cold War. Mark Danner’s first addition of The Massacre at El Mozote was published in the United States by Vintage Books in 1994 and it consists of 304 pages costing $15.00. This book takes the reader through the reasoning, planning, killings, and aftermath of the destruction of Salvadorian civilians, hamlets, and cities by Salvadorian army forces. The book demonstrates in detail the multitude and severity of the killings along with eyewitness accounts of the killings from survivors at El Mozote. Danner worked to illustrate the story from a variety of viewpoints, including how the United States came into the picture, how the guerilla rebel forces reacted to the mass killings of civilians by the Salvadorian army, along with how all of these relationships interacted with one other.
The interactions between Settlers and Native Americans can best be described as a shameful episode of American history. Over the course of 100 years, Native Americans were subjected to shameful acts including brutal treatment, broken treaties, and the destruction of their culture by white Settlers. The first century of the United States is filled with shameful words and acts of brutality toward Native American cultures. Founding fathers and ‘heroes’ such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson referred to Native Americans as “Wolves and beasts” and advocated efforts to “Pursue them to extermination.” These were not empty threats, as his actions toward Native Americans earned Washington the nickname “Destroyer of towns” as he promoted the slaughter of natives both hostile and otherwise. After that, future President Andrew Jackson promoted the wholesale slaughter and mutilation of natives in the 1830s, ordering his men to cut the noses off hundreds of slain natives to provide accurate body counts.
On morning of April 16,2007, Seung-Hui Cho perpetrated the deadliest shooting incident in the US by a single gunman. Cho, a 23 year old senior at Virginia Tech first killed two students in West Ambler Johnston Hall, a residence hall, at appropriately 7:15am. Cho had access to the building more than likely by using his pass card, although his card was coded for access only after 7:30am. It is undetermined how he gained access prior to 7:30am on April 16th. After Cho left the scene at West Ambler Johnston Hall he changed out of his bloodied clothes, logged onto his computer, deleted all of his emails and removed his hard drive.
Over a year the US army covered up their massacre and 13 soldiers were charged with war crimes against humanity. Lieutenant William Calley was convicted as his platoon had killed 200 of the victims. He was given 10 years imprisonment but however only served 3 and received parole in 1974. He then settled down and had a quiet life as a shopkeeper in Georgia. During the attack the US army had no real opposition.

The Bosnia genocide seen in former Yugoslavia, the Rwanda genocide, or the Darfur conflict which started in 2003 have shown the world just how prejudice can lead people to take part in "ethnic cleansing". Although such humanitarian crimes have been seen around the world the most massive and known acts of genocide has been seen in the Holocaust, a program of deliberate extermination of Jews along with other groups that lead to the killing of approximately six million Jews during World War II. Snehali Patel Mr. Crossland 16 March, 2012 World War I is a well known event across the entire globe. A large percent of the population can state details of its gruesome story. Whether they be students in school, someone who experienced the horrors of World War I themselves, or just an average Joe, the horrendous war is recognized. Beginning with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary, the domino effect was starting, and there was no stopping it. There was going to be war and it would be known as one of the bloodiest wars of all time.
