Chippawa's first Presbyterian congregation was not organized until 1831, although the Presbyterian missionary and founder of almost all Presbyterian churches in the Niagara Peninsula, the Reverend Daniel Ward Eastman, often preached here, as early as 1807. The 1831 congregation, being American oriented, was first suspended and later, due to the MacKenzie rebellion of 1837, was disbanded. In September, 1842, it was re-organized as a congregation of the United Secession church. A building fund was established. Mr. James Cummings, prominent landowner and merchant in the village, donated a half-acre of land for a church site.
Margaret Floy Washburn was born in New York City, New York on July 25, 1871. Washburn’s parents were Rev. Francis and Elizabeth Floy. The Anabaptist group has been persisted from their beliefs for more than three centuries they are the Amish, the Mennonites and the Hutterites. They believe in baptism and pacifism, they stayed with a strict religious community. Later on the Amish had migrated from several countries to America. The first migration started in 1727 to 1790, there was about five hundred Amish that settled in the Pennsylvania area.
Well, that has been the case until just recently with a particular student, Kwasi Enin, a student at William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, N.Y. Kwasi Enin was born in Amityville, New York to parents who are both nurses and immigrants from Ghana. This makes both he and his sister Adowa Enin, first generation Americans from Ghana.
