The Importance of Being on Time PV2 Piccolo, Ryan P. Many people say that time is of the essence. Patience is certainly a virtue, but punctuality is certainly far superior in terms of relativity. Take for example a scheduled appointment. If someone were to miss their appointment, the consequences could range from missing a doctors check up to death itself. It may seem morbid, but consider that in an important position, such as an infantryman, than their job not only requires punctuality for the successful completion of a mission, but also showing his brothers in arms that he is capable of being dependable and one can even steal time itself. The infantryman has many responsibilities in his daily life and being punctual to meet his ‘hard times’ is one of them. A hard time is a pre-set time that the infantryman is given to be at a prearranged area with the right equipment and uniform. Being on time daily instills discipline in the infantryman. Punctuality shows that he is adept at displaying competence in his skills. He is required to be capable of being able to be ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America in close combat at a moment’s notice, especially during QRF(Quick Reaction Force). QRF is a month long period of time that the infantryman is required to always be able to react to any potential enemy threat. If the infantryman was late to showing up to such an important event, his team would not be able to deploy as fast and the enemy may be able to use this time to their advantage. One of the most important parts of an infantryman’s job is understanding that he is part of a team. The typical team for the infantryman is comprised of a squad, a small unit that has a team leader, an automatic rifleman, a grenadier, and a rifleman.
