Achieving Your Dream The American Dream is the belief that anything can be accomplished through hard work and dedication. Some say the American Dream is about money, others say that it is about happiness. What do you think the American Dream is about? Personally, the American Dream is about being able to earn money so you can gain happiness. For this topic I had to interview an adult about the American Dream, read the John Steinbeck novel Of Mice and Men, and read the article “US Today” Knows Nothing About the American Dream by John Nolte. When my interviewee was my age, she started to plan about going to college. She wanted to get a degree in accounting so she could get an office job. “When I was your age I always think of getting a college degree in accounting so I could get a good job in office environment and some of the time I thought after completing my degree I will become a school teacher”(Mavi). Since she planned ahead it helped her pick the range on jobs she wants to do. With the plan in her head she went to get an office job at the San Jose City Hall. In Of Mice and Men Lennie and George had a plan for what they wanted to do when they get all the money. They wanted to buy their own land to start a farm. “‘O.K. Someday—we’re gonna get the jack together and we’re gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an’ a cow and some pigs and—’ ‘An’ live off the fatta the lan’,’ Lennie shouted. ‘An’ have rabbits. Go on, George! Tell about what we’re gonna have in the garden and about the rabbits in the cages and about the rain in the winter and the stove, and how thick the cream is on the milk like you can hardly cut it’”(Steinbeck 8). This explains that they had everything planned out. After this job they would have been able to own their land. They joined Candy and Crooks so they can have more money in accoomplishing their dreams.In the novel the could have accomplished their dream, but unfortunately George had to kill
