Of all the outdoor games, I like the football most. I began to like it when I was only ten. It is neither costly nor dangerous. I like football because it gives a total exercise of the whole body. A football player is a good runner, a keen observer and a patient sportsman. He is healthy man with strong body and strong active legs. It is played on an even ground about 150 metres long and 100 metres broad. There are four goal posts, two at each end of the field. It is a very healthy game. It provides good exercise and makes the players strong and active. It is played by two teams of eleven players each. There are five forwards, three half backs, two full backs and a goalkeeper in each side. The forwards try to take the ball to their opponent's goal and pass it between their goal posts. If they succeed, a goal is scored. The ball is taken alongwith the help of one's feet. No player except the goalkeeper is allowed to catch or touch it with his hands. The team that scores more goals wins the game. A game usually lasts for 70 minutes. The game is supervised by a referee and two linesmen. The referee sees that the two teams play the game fairly according to its rules. He decides all points of disputes. Both the teams have to obey him. In football, one learns how to tackle with the opposite player according to the rules. A football player has to play always with a cool mind and never to get excited and angry, on the fouls and bad temper of the opponents. The goalkeeper has to be the most alert man, watching the ball carefully. He has to put all his efforts to keep the ball away from the goal post. I watch all the national and international football matches and I note carefully the different moves and tactics used by the players.
