An average size person has about 30-35 billion fat cells. One pound of body fat is equal to about 3500 calories. Why is it so easy to gain weight and so hard to lose it? Studies have shown when a person losses weight the size of fat cells decrease but the number of fat cells in the body stay the same. This is part of the reason that once a person gains a large amount of weight it is so much harder to loss it.

Wal-Mart with all its size and power, could hurt people or help them in a lot of situations. Which do you think it normally chooses to do (Bill Quinn 102)? The answer for so many years has obviously been hurt people.

As a country, we are spending over $190 billion a year treating these diseases, diseases that could be prevented by increasing exercise and decreasing calories. The scariest fact is that one in three children under 18 are overweight or obese, a rate that has tripled since 1960. The fact that the obesity rates are so high shows that as a society we accept this lifestyle. We need to be proactive as a country, and stop accepting this lifestyle and work towards a healthier society. If this continues we will have a new generation of people that don’t outlive their parents.
Of course, obesity needs to be studied, but for the millions of people battling the bulge, they are left on their own to wad through misleading, confusing, and conflicting information. The biggest obstacle to overcoming obesity in this country and throughout the world is information; the lack of actual helpful information and the overabundance of misleading sensationalized claims. Yes millions of dollars are spent on research. Yes, we spend outrageous amounts of money on diet aids, exercise equipment, and surgery trying to battle the “obesity epidemic”, yet no real headway has been gained in this battle. People are still fat and growing fatter all the

The way technology has driven the last half of a century has changed life astronomically. Everyday people crave and desire the next big thing on the market. Whether it is the hybrid car or touch screen phone, the need for something more leaves room in life for unhappiness when those items are not obtained. Lao-Tzu strongly argued that when people do not want anything, they are okay with living simple. This is beyond the truth of today.
As Professor of Political Science, Victor Navasky said, “There is no cartoon to the editor.” (Navasky) The frustration that comes from this dilemma is most likely what infuriated so many world leaders over the years. However, with a population becoming more and more literate political cartoons are started to become a dying art form; they do not have the same effect on the masses as they once did. The rising literacy rate, paired with falling newspaper sales, have caused this decline as the political satirist turn their talents to a whole new digitalized
One of the most well known ways that the government has gotten us into this shape would be how they take away Medicare and Medicaid from the older generations to increasing the cost to go to college for the younger generation ( Jonus, 2012). The prices of gas and groceries have been on an up rise for years now and are steadily going up. This puts so much stress on the common day American that their trust in the government has diminished. When you turn on the T.V and see these politicians going on big vacations and riding around in nice fancy vehicles you start to wonder to where your hard earned money goes. It is really hard to fully grasp the idea that our government is doing the best for us and to stay calm while our country falters at the seams day by day.
