On facebook and instagram you can add pictures and information with other people across the globe. With twitter you can “tweet” also known as messaging to get information out on the web. A good way an individual can use social media to help strengthen their community is by setting up a Facebook account to delivery important information. For example my community has a Facebook page I follow and they are constantly updating information about my community’s environment. Every Thursday at 6pm they have tea time at our local city hall so we can get to know our neighbors better.
Thompson suggests that Twitter is a very useful tool. “…I’m more knowledgeable about the details in her life, than the lives of my two sisters in Canada, who I talk to only once every month or so” (Thompson, 2011). The use of logos is shown in “I went back to class and, like, a half an hour later, my mother was in the school.” By providing the audience with the exact time, the narrator is providing evidence for the rapid rate at which information spreads through social media. When another man says “It was about 7th grade and I'm in 12th grade now”, Logos is used again to show just how long people remember the incident. In this case, it is 5 years and counting. Social media has forced the incident into people’s minds by expanding the audience and the ability to save information forever. We use them in everyday of our activity talking to your Family texting your friends or even sending out an email to a professor. It has become so much of an addiction that us as students and teachers even use them in school. My hypothesis for this paper is that at least more than fifty percent of students use their cell phones while in class whether is texting and/or browsing on their internet.
