The day my life changed for the worse… Have you ever experienced something you never thought you would? You’ve always seen other people going through things and all you can think about is that will never be me. That can’t happen to me it’s not possible. I always thought and said that stuff when my friends brought up the subject of divorce and their parents. A lot of my friend’s parents are divorced and I always said “oh, my parents will never get a divorce. They never fight. It won’t happen to me”. Oh but was I wrong.. Four years ago on July 4th, 2007, I received that worst possible news. I was on vacation with some friends at Myrtle Beach, my little brother was me. We woke up that morning not prepared for anything we were about to hear. When we woke up nothing seemed out of place we got up, got dressed and were just about to walk out the door of the hotel to go to the beach when my phone rang. “Tanner it’s mom” I screamed. “Let me answer” Tanner answered the phone. “Hey mom” he screamed then it was dead silence. “Mom, why are you crying?” he asked nervously. “Let me talk to Lauren, Tanner”. He hands me my phone with a scared look on his face. I picked up the phone nervous and anxious to know what was going on I said “hello, what’s going on?” “Hey honey, I have some bad news me and your dad are getting a divorce.” My mom calmly said. “What? Why?” I replied quickly. “We’ll talk when you guys get home, I have to go bye I love you” and she was gone. Before I even got a chance to reply she had already hung up. I didn’t know what to think much less say. I was in shock. I didn’t know if I was supposed to be upset or sad, I didn’t know. So many things were running through my head, I couldn’t even thing straight. I just needed some time to think. My brother kept asking and begging me to tell me what was going on but I couldn’t.
