The Congo river The Congo River also known as the Zaire River in west Central- Africa. It is the second most powerful African river and stream of the most productive in the world. It is also the deepest river in the world, with in some parts deeper than 230 meters. It is one of the most dangerous river, because it starts with peace, but it takes up speed and becomes turbulent. Therefor it is called the “Hell Gate”. The Congo River flows through: The Republic of Congo, Zaire, Angola, Zambia, Cameroon, Tanzania Rwanda, Central African Republic and Burundi. The river forms most of the borders between Zaire and the Republic of Congo. The source of the river were all rivers come together are: Junction of Lualaba and Luvua rivers. The Congo river ends up in the: Atlantic ocean also known as the mouth. Due to the fact that the Congo has many tributaries, the Congo River is the biggest transportation source in Central Africa. The rivers tributaries are on the left side: Lomami, Maringa, Busira and Kasai. And the tributaries on the rights side are: Lufira, Luvua, Lukuga, Linda, Aruwimi, Ubangi and Sangha. In the river many rapids and waterfalls of the Livingstone falls, among others. The Congo River gets up to 90 inches of rainfall a year. It has within its banks 30 waterfalls and thousand of islands. At Inga falls there is a Hydroelectric Dam on the Congo River. It’s worth 80 Billion Dollars, and provides energy for millions of people. The length of the river is 4373 km if you count the Chambeshi. And without the Chambeshi the river is 2900 km. The height of the junction of Lualaba and luvua rivers are 931 meters. The flow rate of the Congo river is very regularly and represents 40,000 cubic metres per second. The catchment Area of the Congo is about 3 680 000 km2 big. The river flows for the most part near the Equator, therefor the area around it is very hot.
