“Janus” by Ann Beattie is a short story about an estate agent, Andrea, and her indispensable bowl which means a lot to her. Andrea is a woman who knows the necessities of her job and able to use her sale skills. The bowl in the story is described extensively, from different point of views and in many different situations. It is depicted as if it was someone who is the reason of Andrea’s success. Andrea lives with it, carry it wherever she goes because she loves it and has a strange commitment to this inanimate object.
Paragraph 2- Curley's wife Talk about how she is always hanging around on the ranch, finding excuses to get out of the house. Contain references to the fact that she is the only woman on the ranch and that she is married to a man that she dislikes greatly. Refer to her being only just into her late teens. Mention how she, as well as crooks, opened up to Lennie because she was lonely. Also mention that she lied to herself and made herself believe that the man she met could really have put her in the pictures and that her mother had hidden the letters from Hollywood.
They were all fantasized with how good my project board looked, how artistic I made everything and how visual it was the only problem that came to me was the question “What is Hollister Co.?” These judges were kind of old ladies they would probably have no idea or never shopped or seen this store at the mall before, but since I am an avid customer that shops there I had no problems explaining to them what the store was and what it was like. So then I continued to lead right on into the start of my project I was flowing pretty well and having a good time with these ladies. Once my 20 minutes was almost over I wrapped it up and said “goodbye, have a nice day.” Phew that was finally over but I think I did a good job so now I’d have to kill time till after noon so I can get to see how my results came out and see what I placed. So I went and placed my stuff in our class corner so I didn’t have to carry arm loads of stuff around, then I went to
However, despite the pain and struggle Bechdel has had facing her father's life and death, the book is neither morose nor depressing. The author has found peace with herself in regard to her father, her childhood, and who she is today. As she says in the dedication (to her mother and brothers) " We did have a lot of fun, in spite of everything." FUN HOME is a wonderful graphic memoir that is engaging, heartrending, funny, and thoughtful. Readers will definitely want to stop by the Fun Home for this
Her evaluation will still be good but with a warning to talk less. Her motivation is becoming ESOP (Employee Stock Option Plan) with the benefits that go along with it. Toni Bell: She likes what she does, but she has been doing it for so long that it no longer challenges her. She needs a break from her daily routine because she is getting burned out. Dolores' life transition after going to college and meeting Kippy was both negative and positive. She becomes Kippy's slave, washing her clothes, bringing her food and retrieving her mail which Dolores keeps for herself. She becomes obsessed with Kippy's boyfriend Dante who Dolores feels she does not deserve. Later, she meets Dot, an overweight lesbian woman who she has a one night stand with before fleeing to Cape Cod where she attempts suicide, only to change her mind. She is then institutionalized until she is considered sane enough to live in a half-way house.
There is even a scene where she strips down to her lingerie at work, where they were all women, in front of her mom. Her mom tells her to put her clothes on because of how she looks “Look at you, you look awful!” (Carmen, RWHC) Another part of the main myth, to be a certain way, was when her mom tells Ana the things a man likes. She tells her “A man wants a virgin” (Carmen, RWHC), and when Ana loses her virginity, she suspects of it and confronts her. She tells her that she was a slut “You’re not only fat, now you’re a puta.” (Carmen, RWHC) and then asks why she doesn’t value herself. Carmen seems like there are certain ways she believes a woman should be like.
1. “Now, women forget all those things they don’t want to remember, and remember everything they don’t want to forget.” I chose this quote because I like the way it portrayed women’s feelings. This quote is basically saying that women tend to hold on to things they don’t want to forget but what they don’t necessarily want to remember they ignore or forget. I feel that it’s true because if you don’t think something is truly important you’ll forget about it. I think not only does it work in the book but in life because people do it all the time.
Over the course of a week, four couples and one outside friend attended their yearly Colorado vacation in hopes of working out the kinks in their relationships; however, one couple in particular took the spotlight with a major infidelity scandal. 1. Identity Scripts According to Looking Out, Looking In, Identity Scripts are our rules for living and identity. They define our roles and how we are to play them (Adler, 2005, p. 172).
